Pockethold - A Web based Installer

Pockethold

Downloads Flarum via Browser.

Pockethold does this by:

Bundling Composer
Run Create-Project for Flarum
Removes all traces of itself.

How to use it:

Download

Unzip and upload content to where you want flarum installed.

Visit yoururl.com/installer.php and follow the steps.

Please note: Some of the steps during the install can take up to 3 minutes.

URGENT NOTICE: Pockethold don't have upgrade functionality currently. It is possible in theory to use pockethold in another folder, and then do some copy work etc, but this has not been tested. I might experiment with this in the future.

Constructive feedback on my code is also appreciated as long as it is constructive! Condescension really does not encourage anyone to do better! I already know I did many mistakes.

I would especially be happy to get feedback, tips and pull requests for ajax bit, and the UI bit 🙂

Davis You say this is pre alpha, but the version doesn't indicate that. You used 0.1.0 (stable) when you should be using alpha in the version. See semantic versioning.

Do I understand it correctly that since the installer is "feature complete" but in need of more testing, and above all code cleanup, it is correct to use 0.1.0 as version? And that it is more of a Beta, not alpha?

Advice on this would be very nice indeed.

As for credits, text in file header and the like, I will do a full revise on this tonight, and see how other flarum projects handles this.

Nomak Sapioit I compiled a new version now.

Please note I am not sure if it will be any better for you guy, as the way Composer is used is still the same.

Sometime in the not too far future, I hope to release a new version which will read flarums composer.json and manually install one requirement at a time. This will drastically decreasing memory footprint, and obviously reducing the chance of timeouts.

@Nomak @Sapioit as long as 3rd step was not completed, there should be an install.log and a composer.log. It would be nice to see what those contain.

The code has progressed further after the release tough. You can try to download the source and using the content of /src/, which have been refactored some in terms of feedback. You will then have to delete the some files manually.

I will compile a new release with current changes shortly.

I did not do this before, as I am refactoring the code to do "composer require" for each dependency instead of downloading all in one. This will reduce memory footprint and make it more likely to work on a broader range of shared hosts.

andreherberth I don't see any composer.log, only composer.lock... Maybe Composer didn't install properly... anyway, I'll be waiting for the next release of PoketHold. Please mention me or reply to me when that happens!

Sapioit in case you have access to /var/log/apache2/error.log you probably find more information there. Most likely this is caused by a missing extension.

Some last contents in error.log... there were a lot of errors, but
I deleted the path to the file, to remove some of the clutter...
The errors seem to be only on lines 180 and 183...

Sapioit That is from the function that copies and deletes the flarum temp folder.

It seems to not have permissions for deleting the files.
Is this by any chance a windows environment?

0E800 All of these seems to mostly deal with the server side setup on Windows environments, aka not problems with PHP code in itself.

Since in Sapioit error log seems to spot the files themself, but are unable to remove them due to permissions, it could very well be that the third link of yours might provide the answer.

I would like to know if the files was copied before it failed the unlink function though.

@Sapioit Did files get copied to the root folder?
