trying to install

ok so what are we missing here? what folders need to be chmod 777 and where. what else needs to be done before installing. how do we install? there is no install instructions. i would assume once you type in your url, it would automatically go through an install sequence but all i get is white blank page. thanks

Make sure the flarum/storage directory and its contents are writable by PHP. That's likely the cause of the blank white page. Still a few kinks to iron out with the install process!

If you need to debug further, add ini_set('display_errors', 'On'); to the top of flarum/bootstrap.php and see if you get any error messages.

You are running version 5.4.39.

crap. is there any way to bypass this. i am running this on my dedicated server and am running other scripts and do not want to update mysql just incase it fubars the other scripts due to changes

You need to update PHP, not MySQL (though that needs version 5.5+, too). And no, there's no way around that, I'm afraid. :-/

You probably just want to update your php since support for 5.4 in ending in September if i recall correctly.
In case you are on a shared hosting enviroment you are probably stuck for the time being.
