Installing flarum on fastcomet shared hosting

Hello,

I asked FastComet support to install flarum for me, and I got response:

"as far as I can see the installation will be not possible on our shared hosting environment because it is requiring global editing on some of the configuration files of the server. This means that this setup will affect each user on the same server which is not allowed. For such installation, you need to consider an upgrade to VPS or DS server."

Is this correct or should I push on? Thank you.

bencemeszaros Flarum has certain requirements such as SSH access, installing Composer globally, Nginx/Apache configuration, and PHP version >= 5.6. The only thing I understand from your hosting saying "global" could be stemming from requiring composer. Even so, my previous shared hosting allowed me to install Flarum without any issue. It looks like your hosting doesn't have all of their ducks in a row.

bencemeszaros you can just upload the flarum downloaded files to your shared hosting server by zipping it up, upload to the directory in cPanel filemanager and simply unzip the zip file you uploaded to your desired location on your server.

I have done the same and my flarum is running at http://helpdesk.othenticmedia.com it's a shared hosting.

Expanding on the above post from @QaziSalmanAhmad

Install it locally with xampp or similar, once all is good zip all files it and upload to your hosting account. Unzip, configure and test.

SSH access is available on all of our shared hosting plans. What is more, we do have Composer installed globally on the shared server. We have recently set the default PHP version on all our shared hosting servers to PHP 7.0.24, which is the latest in the PHP 7.0.x branch. In other words, Flarum is fully supported on all our Shared Hosting plans and a free installation of it is included upon request.

The points you have raised have been addressed with our colleagues who have worked on your case as they could have used a better approach to explain the situation without causing additional frustration.
