GOD Flarum at the moment is the only free forum software which is not shared host friendly.
I agree to a certain degree. At this stage being shared host friendly isn't flarum's top priority. As you said, there are a lot of other softwares that suit those who need a shared host friendly solution.
I have the skill and the knowledge to set up my own VPN or Dedicated Server as a system administrator. -- But not everyone has that knowledge and I helped contribute only because I had the understanding that in the future, they would make it as easy to install as phpBB or WordPress.
That means, you can use it already. Less IT literate people will be able to use it later or they have to rely on solutions like free flarum (having the freedom to move the forum to their own server later on).
Folks have been waiting a few YEARS for a release and now that wait is nearly over, they wish to pull out and the wait was for nothing.
What do you mean, when you say "for nothing"? As far as I know there was never a promise about the time needed to reach a state of the software, where installing flarum would be as simple as uploading a zip file. That is one of the reasons why flarum is called beta. I decided not to wait for a non-beta version (I use flarum as it is right now), but if I decided to wait I had used a solution like free flarum or another software in the mean time. As you said yourself, there are quite a few softwares that would suit me.

To me it sounds like an acclaimed entitlement because you waited so long. In my opinion this is not reasonable. I, for one, am happy that the developers chose (and still choose) to do it exactly the way they are doing it, knowing that the alternative in the given circumstances would have been to push through an underdone product. That would have been much more disappointing.
