Upgrading to Font Awesome 5?

How would I go about overwriting the current Font Awesome 4.x series with the FA5 series I have?

At one point, I had them working, but it seemed there were so many I was trying to override, replace, hide, etc?

I'd just like to have them updated is all (without using CSS).

I've changed the majority over... but yet, there are some that don't match.

How did you replace the icons ? Did you change every icon reference in core ? Or did you simply switch the font files and the missing icons are those renamed ?

A dirty fix could be to monkey-patch the icon helper so you can rename v4 icons to their v5 name on the fly without touching the core...

Your forum looks really nice with these icons by the way ?

Well... renamed the "fonts" folder, "xfonts"

Uploaded my Font Awesome 5 files to a new folder, obviously named "fonts". Renamed all of my FA5 font files to match what was previously in the folder. Matched up all files for the folders - xfonts and fonts

So far, only had to replace around 7 or so icons with ones that do not have a match, I've just added them with !important in CSS.

So... what are you trying to do now ? Looks like that strategy is working ?

Yeah, hah. Well, had to figure out exactly how to get the FA5 icons to even show in the first place.

I generally seem to ask questions first, and as I wait for help, I start trying different things out. This time it seemed to work out okay. Hahaha.

I am used to having a zip (used XenForo for quite a while).

Correct, I was in on the CrowdFund and got an early adopter license, to the Solid, Regular and Light fonts. I should have been a bit more clear on that. Apologies.

Would be nice to have more free icon libraries like Font Awesome (since FA is not that great design wise). Or better have the tools to upload and change default icons with custom premium icons—changing them via css is kinda easy and not that easy. ?

Radu beta 8 makes referencing icons use full classes eg far fa-star. As such other icon packs can be combined. Removing font awesome is not yet implemented, but might be possible in the future.

but the font he is using on his site are light version of fa5 which is paid, so how is he using them? someone answer if u have used them
