"Show x updated discussion" and pinned discussions

In my opinion, clicking on "Show x updated discussion(s)" might confuse new or inexperienced users, especially if there are a number of pinned discussions, as it shows the updated discussions below the pinned ones. This makes it appear like the page has just been refreshed if there are large number of pinned discussions.

A suggestion would be to place the updated discussions above the pinned ones when the link is clicked, or to use an anchor to scroll to the last updated discussion.

The pinned discussions sort of need to be kept at the top until they're read, or the pinning won't have served its purpose. Check here for some of the thinking that went into the design of how pinning works.

Isn't that more or less what clicking the "Show x updated discussions" link does?

Rewriting and significantly improving all the push update stuff is on the roadmap. We'll keep this in mind.

Thanks. It's not that I don't understand the importance of pinned discussions, but rather, if you're in the position to click on the link regarding the updated discussions, then you're going to expect a list of updated discussions to appear. As it is, I can still only see the pinned discussions, unless I scroll down. My point being, most users won't expect to scroll down. Also, not all users are going to read pinned discussions beforehand.

If screenshots are needed to make this clearer, I can gladly provide them.
