After 30 minutes of fast-scripting and creating code that you couldn't look at, I have fixed it and found the cause: it seems that the new PHP-FPM is very aggressive on configs and what sites exist and what don't. So, if there happens to be a config for a site folder that doesn't exist, it tears down entire FreeFlarum. Before, it wasn't a big deal, but now it is critical. We will have to update our scripts to delete every config and sock that doesn't need to exist anymore.

In this specific case, our inactive forum remover didn't remove the configs for sites, so I had to quickly bash Python script to iterate over all dead configs and remove them completely. Oof.

One positive thing: open files usage dropped to 66% after the cleanup...

I have (hopefully) put a temporary fix to one of our scripts that handle forum removals.

Because of this, forum reactivation is temporary paused too, unless it's urgent.

I have finished the forum cleanup anyways in the end. Open files usage dropped to 62 %, so I increased the error report limit to > 80 %. https://freeflarum.com/status should no longer report any errors.

The crash is now gone, hasn't happened anymore which is great! Sorry for the recent downtimes, but it is difficult to update over 3 000 forums with no issues - even more difficult is fixing them.

As for forum reactivation (in case yours got taken down in the cleanup), it is still not allowed until further notice. I will try to fix the code for that today so it works again.

Flarum doesn't really support this. But moreover, why would you want to do this? You'd just be diluting your SEO. www is outdated, and shouldn't be used.

askvortsov probably cname compatibility. because you can't put cname in root domain

lakshya I'd just setup a redirect from root to WWW, you can't have multiple addresses pointing to the same URL in FreeFlarum.

I agree with @askvortsov - in my opinion, WWW is just ugly. You could use something like "forum.bibnom.com" or "community.bibnom.com", which is generally a better practice, as you can easily put your domain in named groups if you grow in the future and you want to have multiple websites and it will be easier to find difference between them and choose the right one.

I agree with setting up redirect through cPanel. It is comparatively less complex.

Hi, I have an issue after installing my forum on FreeFlarum. It's related to the e-mail settings. I tried both with smtp and the default settings, but nothing works since yesterday.

I always get a message saying "You're going a little too fast..." It looks like I am unable to send any mails? I checked the User Guide, and possible I brick my forum..? 🤔

Edit: It looks like email is working, but I am confused by the error.

Hello! I'm running a forum through FreeFlarum and have recently had an issue where when I replied to a user, they received a notification which stated that their username replied to them(self). Has anyone else had an issue like this before? Not a huge problem but may become confusing if replies are listing the wrong username in the future...

These changes take effect immediately, because they are just a small improvements that aren't too noticeable anyways.

Specifically, we've addressed how it is with monetizing FreeFlarum forums and we made the forum user limit more clear, for example. I recommend you to quickly look at it, despite them being some small changes.

Hello does 250 users limit still refers to simantenous users?

I've spoke some time ago to @luceos if I should consider moving, however his answear was no, since my simantenous users max number is 15. And average is less than half of this number.

But this rule still worries me since my number of regustered users is close to 250.

aaronlbpeterman if there are only 15 active users at the same time, then you shouldn't worry and FreeFlarum can handle it.

And the 250 user limit can go higher than that, we host bigger forums that are fine with it

However, FreeFlarum is definitely not suited for 250 users active at the same time (that are eg.: posting articles, browsing the forum, etc...). On the other hand, we didn't test any extreme numbers yet, but I am pretty sure FreeFlarum wouldn't handle it.

Simply said, FreeFlarum can handle 15 active users, even more (again, not tested, but I guess ± 30?) and a fair amount of... just users (specifically one of the biggest forums we host has +500 users and +1000 discussions and works just fine - the actual limit is "average" of all forums. If more forums would hit this limit, it would be a problem).
