So, hey everyone. I come here in desperation. I run my forum (http://89.163.129.172) from my Linux machine that my friend bought for me over a year ago. I have super fast connections. However, I cannot start my forum without SSL and a domain.

This is where I feel bad, but would anyone be able to get me a domain/SSL for free, I know, It's a lot to ask but I'd greatly appreciate it.

Domains really aren't that expensive, and you can get SSL through LetsEncrypt which is entirely free.

shallow Oh I didn't know about LetsEnrcypt I will look into that. As for the domain, my forum/community is entirely non-profit and we have no income to support our domain.

We haven't launched our Forum to the community over on Discord yet.

XxPoNaGeXx If you are running a non-profit organisation then try to talk to domain registrars. They sometimes do provide good deals or in some cases provide domain free for the first year. Maybe this might work for you.
Although they might ask for proof and details about your organisation so be ready with those before hand.

You can utilize free domain registration services such as Freenom (Google it) if you're desperate for a free domain. I actually use Freenom to register .tk and .ga domains for testing purposes when it comes to projects going on in ReDevs land.

As for an SSL, if you have a VPS you can either use/install Certbot or route your name servers/DNS through Cloudflare.

Redevs.org is currently hosted using GitHub pages (with a custom domain (not a free domain of course)) and it is also utilizing Cloudflare to stop those annoying "Website not secure!" messages. Who needs to pay $5+ a month for hosting a basic static website?
