There is definitely a time to use capitals and times where it is unnecessary. It is purely personal preference though in my opinion and not a reason to use one forum software over another. Same thing goes for structure; if all or the majority of forums maintained similar structures then there wouldn't be something unique and it would be boring.

Use the software that suits you, your community and/or your subject matter.

DMT At the risk of going off-topic even further, for the record, title case is definitely a thing – it is recommended in Apple's Human Interface Guidelines. There are many advantages and disadvantages to consider, but it certainly is not generally viewed as "unprofessional".

I enjoyed the participation and thought put into the majority of these comments.

Discourse is like a visually loud Christmas tree with too much glitter, as compared to Flarum which could be likened to a bonsai tree; simplistic elegance.

Looking forward to it's continued progress.

Just came across this discussion and wanted to bump it up. My friend got a test site running in under 30 minutes (installed via YunoHost), even though she's not the "tech savvy" kind, so I'd say a lot of the "initial" install bumps have gone since this thread was last created.

I came across Flarum because I was initially thinking Discourse (the default option these days, it seemed), but then I found I need a VPS, and Docker, and 2GB RAM and whatnot. Most other forum software, if well designed on the backend, are pretty ugly to look at (or shall we say, out of their time). Flarum's the only one I found that's got reasonable features and is also aesthetically pleasing.

I haven't explored much yet, but from first impressions this seems pretty awesome, and I've had nothing to complain about so far. if people think removing "don't use this in production" warning isn't a good idea, perhaps it could at least be toned down a bit?

badrihippo as probably said above in this topic and certainly said elsewhere, at this time (2020) the "beta" label is mostly due to our extension API not being finalized. It will still change during the path to stable, and keeping beta allows us to make breaking changes between releases while we perfect it. In fact, the upcoming beta 14 will contain many of such breaking changes. Extension developers and forum owners should expect work to be done between Flarum betas, and we are not supporting outdated betas.

The "don't use in production" warning is here to put people on guard against those breaking changes, which might occasionally require getting their hands dirty. So far we've been very good at providing an easy upgrade path from beta to beta, but things can still be expected to break occasionally during upgrades, in particular when using many community extensions.

So what about changing this text to "use with caution and be aware of the possible occasional breaks as lined out here", "here" being a link to a more detailed page which describes the risks and how to minimize them.

Pollux we've already seen people go waaaaaay outside of their comfort zone trying to get Flarum working, and the warning didn't stop them.

As Sanguine described in his original post, the people we need the most right now are "Power Users" using Flarum. Those people will do their research to understand what the warning actually means.

For the other ones, I prefer we keep it as it is, as to not create too high expectations. I'd say it also serves our objective to under-promise and over-deliver.

Once we reach stable, we'll be able to lift those warnings. No need to invest time in that in the meantime I'd say.
