Definitely worth it depending on what type of forum or community you want to create!
The frequency of updates and whether they're regular enough or not are purely someone's opinion. When you take into account all variables such as time and capacity available for the developers, I reckon they're doing an awesome job and it can only improve. There will be an update soon that I'm sure will reassure everyone about the progress and to give some insight into where development is headed so stay tuned guys.
In the meantime, despite the fact that we are still in beta, I and many other members use Flarum in a production environment. My advice would be to prevent using too many extensions as it can only cause more errors and issues when updating between new versions. I have no extensions whatsoever on my Flarum instance and have always managed to update flawlessly with every release.
