gear3D Hoping this helps some other people too. I had to execute "sudo a2enmod rewrite" and then "sudo service apache2 restart" in order to enable PHP rewrites for my install. Found at http://www.dev-metal.com/enable-mod_rewrite-ubuntu-14-04-lts/
