Flarum clone?

Not sure if you guys know about this, but there is a Flarum clone out there which looks exactly like it.

Like I said before, it looks and works mostly like Flarum does. There is no admin panel, but it does have a few extensions. And the rest is...yeah. Look for yourself.

Is that allowed? Do you devs know about this?

If you download it and look in the MIT.txt license file, you see it mentions "Toby Zerner". @Toby

So it appears that the author of Qdiscus does not offend the license.

So everything is fine. Yes this is allowed. See Wikipedia.

I don't think it is wise, from a maintainer and community perspective. But it is perfectly legal.

BTW: Why isn't @Franz mentioned in the LICENSE file?

Absolutely disgusting. WIll not use or register or give them any of my time. Complete and utter disrespect towards Toby and Franz and other main contributor's, what a shame.

Whether it's legal or not, I'm still disgusted at people trying to Hi-Jack a project.

Wombat so, every Linux distro is disrespecting Linus? Poor guy. It is MIT license, and they are focussing in it as a plugin for WordPress. Horrid, but it has an audience.

I just think Linux distro's have different code and design philosophies around them though, right? This is a blatant copy and paste of the design with nothing new.

I feel like it's more of someone copying Windows 7 and claiming they made their own os (regardless if MIT or not). That's how I feel about this anyway

It is not copy and paste. Flarum is available for download. Their code is older, so it seems.

Wouldn't it be quite easier to just develop a wordpress plugins for Flarum? Why take the whole thing and slap something else over it? It just seems really weird to me, as they don't really change that much.

Of course the whole thing seems to be legal and all, but just...I dunno.

I've only glanced. As y'all can see, this Flarum project is gaining a lot of traction. If that project takes off, more and more of their fan base will eventually discover Flarum too.

They seem to be more interested in writing a plugin, than to build their own forum software. It is necessary to copy the Flarum code base to be able to showcase their plugin's functionality.

Yggdrasil If I remember correctly, this is what prompted @Toby and @Franz to go private with development for a while. The issue was not jut the discouraging fact that the code was being used without credit (which was rectified, at least in part, eventually) but also concern for the WP users who would be using alpha code without being made fully aware of the dangers.

It strikes me as an attempt by the developer to make a name for himself without doing much work. But that's IMHO.

Not quite. They just took the whole thing, slapped something over the back-end to make it compatible with wordpress, and left Flarum itself like it is. There is no real change at all (It feels somewhat slower, though.)

Why not make a plugin for Flarum instead? Because they also want the attention, that's all. Of course the whole thing is perfectly legal, which is why no one can actually take it down. It just feels really silly to use a beta software for what they had in mind.

Ditchmonkey I agree that the tone of some of the reviews is far from perfect.

I believe that most of the anger comes from the fact that originally there was no notice of having taken Flarum's source code, which was clearly not legal.

Forking a project can be done legally if the license is MIT and in most cases forking is encouraged. But, in this particular case, I very much doubt the authors of Flarum (@Toby and @Franz) appreciate it.
