Add Start a Discussion

After fisrt topic, or posts....I want to create more topics, each time I have to go first page then can start a new topic, why not add the Start New Topic command to the Replay box?

kmk do you have an example use-cases where it makes sense to start discussions one after an other ?

Often if a user is going to create plenty of discussions in very short amount of time (like you just did a few days ago) it he either didn't search for an existing discussion (Did you notice multiple of the discussions you started were already being discussed elsewhere ? ? ) or in case of deliberate spamming. For both of these cases I think it only makes sense to make it harder to start new discussions. Give the poster time to consider whether the content deserves its own new discussion.

I think a mass discussion creation tool for admins could make sense when you're just starting a new forum and need to create many discussions though.

To be honest I disagree with this request. It feels awkward to have a 'Start a Discussion' button within a discussion already, otherwise there should be a 'Reply' button on the homepage...

It would just feel clunky and busy, something of which is not what the developers are trying to achieve with Flarum of course.

Prosperous How about adding a button at the rightmost area of the top navigation bar (beside the username drop-down button)? The button should be able to trigger the 'Start a Discussion' button when being clicked.

Having a Start a Discussion button inside a discussion suggests creating a sub-discussion inside an existing discussion (which it wouldn't). Such a button or menu option doesn't seem intuitive to me.

It still feels a little bit weird. I like the fact that whatever page you're on is relative to what functions you can perform. If you're on the homepage you can start a new discussion. If you are within a discussion, then you can post a reply. That's how it should be in my opinion.

That doesn't mean it is right or wrong of course. Anyone can change the code to include such a modification. ?

Actually, I'm just trying to give a suggestion that possibly could solve the problem as mentioned by @kmk

I think what doubt @kmk is that he wanna write several posts continously in a more convenient way. Since the browser will automatically redirect to the new post after posting, it require the user to navigate to the home page again and click on the Start a discussion button, which causes undesired disruption.

So, how if there's an option to turn off the browser redirect after posting a new discussion? @kmk

Or simply a pop-up modal that will ask you whether you wanna navigate to your post or start a new discussion.

I suppose these could be done by listening to the Discussion Posted event (or whatever) ?

Please correct me if I'm wrong. I'm a noob + new to Flarum. But I love Flarum ?

As emphasized by @clarkwinkelmann, this kind of function could be useful to admin, but there's an abusement concern too. So I think there could be an option too to choose which user groups are available to use this kind of function, so as to avoid abusement. ?

clarkwinkelmann I think XavierLoo understand what I mean. e.g righ now I evolve and reading this topic, after that will generate 3 posibilities, one is reply to this topic(in this case there is Reply botton), two is I want to start a new topic(in this case I have to go back home page, but if there have the Start new topic botton will be cool, I dont need go back page, is more direct and help the use of discussion that is the purposal of Flarum design), three is I want to go back home and discover more topic to read(in this case all fine, not problem). Sorry for my bad english, I need upload screenshot function to help explain my point... ?

Flarum is meant to keep things simple and I wholeheartedly admire that. If people make an extension to add things like that I won't care as I don't need to use it, but if it were in the core I had to write an extension to remove it, and that would turn me off. There are a lot of forum softwares out there that disqualify in my eyes within a couple of minutes because of these kinds of clumsiness.

XavierLoo indeed, removing the redirect would be the easiest solution.

It all comes down to a single line of JS https://github.com/flarum/core/blob/v0.1.0-beta.7.1/js/forum/src/components/DiscussionComposer.js#L96 An extension could override the submit event of the new discussion Composer so there is no longer a redirect. Easy to add permissions and a user preference for it as well.

clarkwinkelmann SMF has something similar, you can choose not to redirect back to the topic (going back to the message index instead) once you make a reply. Not sure if it applies to starting topics, I've never liked the option enough to use it myself, but it probably does.

Other thing more, if let me open a topic while I reading a topic, by default should be have related tags added, if I dont add more tags this action will help writer avoid make more clicks searching more tags.

I wouldn't be satisfied if this would be exposed to every user, I still consider it confusing.

So, no, not everyone would be satisfied with your solution.

If u click a dropdown it will post 1191 replies or what? It'a pretty logical that it would offer few more options, including a new discussion.

I agree with u and clarkwinkelmann. That do not make any sense to me either. This is just from my point of view, how it can be done. Of course i was talking about extension for this purpose, and not adding this to core. My bad, i should make it clear that i am talking about a way how extension could be done.
