How Difficult Is It To Upgrade and Migrate to a New Version of Flarum?

How difficult is to upgrade and migrate a deployment to a newer version of Flarum? My understanding is we will have to wait for old plug-ins to be updated for them to work in the next release--totally understandable. That would naturally mean those plug-ins settings and content would be unusable. Can anything else, such as user accounts and forum posts, transfer over? What would that process entail? If there is already an idiot's or for dummies how-to guide for a newbie like me, please share. Thanks! ?

Hifihedgehog Running composer update when beta8 is released will update all extensions, and Flarum should automatically migrate everything over.

I know of quite a few extensions that have already been transferred over and will be released when beta8 is published.

My recommendation for right know is to stick with extensions developed by Flagrow and ReFlar, and the Flarum core extensions, as these are guaranteed to get updated for beta8.

Frink How about in the case of running Flarum in the unrecommended way on a server without SSH? I followed the method for installing Flarum locally and then uploading it. Is it possible to upgrade such a configuration?

Hifihedgehog You could access your server via FTP, zip it and download it all locally, extract it, update it, then upload it again. That is not guaranteed to work though

Gotcha. In going forward, can Flarum self-upgrade via Bazaar or something? That would be very nice.

Hifihedgehog I don't know. I think that is planned, but take a look at the milestone

I strongly believe that it should be possible to update flarum completely by using bazaar. It's something flagrow will attempt to add in the future. Support for cronjobs will be required then though.
