elastic beanstalk is kind of cool, you have one IP that you can switch between instances. When I update big things, I copy my main volume and run updates on it. If all goes well I can either witch the main IP to point to that instance or just run the update on the main volume.

Personally, I use dhosting.com and digitalocean for my projects. The first one is cloud-based managed hosting, the second one requires a little more skills to handle (rather for developers). ?

There is no comparison for me at the moment. Everything from customer service to uptime is flawless. I have spoken about it time and time again and I have no doubt I will be using them for many more years to come. I am a strong believer in that you get what you pay for. Whilst it isn't the cheapest, you definitely benefit from having perfect service.

I would recommend them to anyone.

We were using DigitalOcean to provide our hosting server, then we migrated to Vultr, and we absolutely love it! Their support team is friendly and fast, and they never give you information that you don't need.

They also offer ridiculously low prices, as low as $2.50/mo. Big thanks to @datitisev for pointing Vultr out to me, we no longer use DigitalOcean for anything ?

One other thing I found with Vultr, is that when you are running a GitLab server, I have never seen an Error 500 or Error 502, and on DigitalOcean, running a GitLab droplet without those errors is impossible. I don't know if this is just a thing with DigitalOcean or not, but it really simplifies a persons life!

DanielTheGeek Speaking of Heroku... I notice that’s what a lot of developers at GitHub use to show off their projects. But, the sites always load extremely slow! I assume they load so slow because developers use Heroku’s free package for that kind of stuff? Or maybe there's something else going on that I don't get. But man, whenever I see a Heroku address at GitHub I hesitate even clicking on it because I assume it either will never load or will take a while.

So that's not helpful at all for you @DanielTheGeek, I know. But you asking about Heroku made me think about this phenomenon.

They could have really great, fast hosting depending on the package.

I'm using Namecheap. I never thought I'd use them. The name alone turns me off. A company with "cheap" in their name? Yuck.

To be completely honest I decided to try Namecheap for my Flarum because it was one of the few inexpensive hosts that offered very easy to follow Flarum installation instructions. I had never installed anything via SSH before. But, desperately wanted to try Flarum.

Like many cheap hosts they have their good reviews and they have their bad reviews.

In one bad review, one complaint was that after the first year, the renewal costs are high. Well, they changed their policy. The monthly rate stays the same now after the first year.

In another bad review the complaint was that they found the uptime was really 99.88% or something like that. First, for me, that's fine. My Flarum isn't a money maker or anything. If it's down every now and then, oh well. But also, that was one person's experience. My site is always up and loads fast when I go there. Also that review could have been old. Namecheap seems to be improving.

They also offer some things for free that other shared hosts don't. And finally, I can pay monthly. This shocked me and is ultimately what made me pull the trigger. I'm tired of having to pay for a full year up front. Paying month to month is amazing!

So Flarum devs, you might want to thank Namecheap for giving people Flarum installation instructions that are easy to follow! ?

010101 I've been using Heroku for years now and (to a great extent) I'm familiar with its bottlenecks. In my opinion, I think developers like Heroku because of the fact that it takes away the need for DevOps skills and is more suitable for startups and small teams

Hobby dynos (free tier VPS) are configured to "sleep" when inactive and can only be awoken when a request is sent to it, which can take around 10 - 20s... but this is only if you use a hobby dyno. Paid dynos, although will still be restarted (at least once a day), don't sleep and will respond immediately to any request sent to it. Notwithstanding the fact that free dynos can get annoyingly slow at times, I have a solution I utilize when running on free dynos that make my sites load as if it were running on a paid dyno and it really addresses this issue. My only problem with Heroku is with the cost of scaling.
