PHP 5?

Being quite a few websites and HOST run CentOS 7 which is running PHP 5.4 I find it odd you require PHP 5.5 to be able to install this software.

PHP 5.5 is soon to follow and 5.6 will end next year. php 7.0 is just around the corner.

You cannot expect a responsible development that aims to produce modern software to design around an out of date software. Rather you should look to your hosting provider to maintain current software.

Just a quick follow up...

Assuming you are on shared hosting, it may be worth the while to go into your cPanel and see if your host allowed you to change php versions. This is a feature many hosting providers now offer. If yours does not, it may be a good time to seek a new host.

If you are using a Virtual Private Server (VPS) or Dedicated Server you, yourself can easily upgrade your copy of PHP.

GOD php 7.0 is just around the corner.

According to the roadmap RC5 (released this month) is the last RC, in november the first release is planned of PHP 7.

This however does not say anything about shared (or managed virtual) hosting environments; because not every webhoster is aware of these EOL's or have had the time to support the migration.

So please follow GOD's advice if you have the possibility to do so, and at least use 5.5.9+.
