Help to convert this script into a Flarum extension

First edit this line of the script until it looks like this:

$flarum_path = '/var/www/seekadventure.net';

Then, if you don't want to setup a cronjob, try to run the command from PuTTY: php /var/www/seekadventure.net/sitemap.php

Its all.

IS there any reason why I would or wouldn't want to include the tags and user sitemaps on Google?

MikeJones If you index those parts of the forum, you have to ensure that those pages are usefull and rich content or you can be penalized by Google. With the actual SEO state of Flarum, the best advice is not index them.

Imagine the situation in which you have 30000 users in your forum, then Google will index 30000 pages which content is mostly unusefull and can be categorized by Google as "thin content". So... you can guess that your forum will be penalized soon or later.

In short, the reason is SEO.

MikeJones The tags sitemap is the less dangeorous, because is weird have a lot of tags. At the same time, the number of tags are under administrator control, so their number never increase without control.

The real problem is index the user profiles, which number is not under our control. So better not index them. You can also use a robots.txtfile to disallow Google to index users ?

luceos We have cronjobs natively on Linux, i don't see the advantages about why we should use flagrow/console.

Zeokat the title of your discussion is "help convert this to an extension". I was assuming you would prefer some pointers on how to achieve that? If you want to create an extension that can offer a Command which can be turned into a Scheduled Command, you can use the flagrow/console package to speed up development.

Hey @Zeokat - Thanks for this. I'm using it with a cron job and it works great! An actual extension would be convenient, but, I'm just happy to have an auto updating sitemap!

I updated the sitemap script and now it works with Flarum Beta 8 and Flarum Beta 9.

[deleted] This is not a SEO extension, SEO isn't a simple sitemap. This is a script, not an extension.

This script creates a sitemap index and you can control with code which parts you want to include and exclude.
