500 Internal Server Error after the Installation

This may be a question, and sharing my case at the same time...

I have a server which uses Linux, and I've just tried the latest version installation.
During the installation procedure, there was no problem.
But after the installation, it was not working with 500 Internal Server Error.
So I thought this could be a server configuration trouble.

And I just tried to install it on my PC which uses Windows.
During the installation procedure, there was no problem as well.
Beside that, it didn't have 500 Internal Server Error either.
So I got convinced about my server configuration again...

But I've just tried a more thing that is...
Upload the files on my PC to my server.
And... it is working WITHOUT 500 Internal Server Error !!!

Do you have any idea about why, it has an error, when I install it on Linux server directly...?

That totally depends on the error message.

Please read the troubleshooting guidelines and provide more detail about the error itself, so that we can help you more effectively. 🙂

aishwarya85 While file permissions are a easy target, it's not the only reason why there could be a internal server error and by default, flarum should check for critical permissions and be fine otherwise.
There seems to be a common notion that Jumping the gun and saying chmod -R 777 everything to every problem is the correct method. In reality, it tends to create more problems then it solves.

As Franz said, it's the error message we need. Internal Server Error really means Something went wrong. A umbrella term meant to indicate to the user - check your error log for the real error!

While OP decided the best course of action was to install on a different operating system, I might suggest to OP to monitor the error log, reproduce the error and post the error here so that we can identify the real cause.

I've solved issue, but I'm sharing the error logs, for others' information.
By a browser, you will not see the errors, so this is from the server error logs.

File does not exist: /home/dep/public_html/500.shtml
SoftException in Application.cpp:256: File "/home/dep/public_html/_/index.php" is writeable by group
File does not exist: /home/dep/public_html/404.shtml, referer: http://my.domain/
File does not exist: /home/dep/public_html/favicon.ico, referer: http://my.domain/
File does not exist: /home/dep/public_html/404.shtml
File does not exist: /home/dep/public_html/favicon.ico

I've set the Flarum folder and index.php permission to 755, that's it.

I tried to install flarum-Beta4 on an different uberspace and getting also a 500 Internal Server Error. The Settings a on both uberspace accounts are the same. But I just noticed this error message when working with composer:

Zend OPcache requires Zend Engine API version 220121212.
The Zend Engine API version 220131226 which is installed, is newer.
Contact Zend Technologies at http://www.zend.com/ for a later version of Zend OPcache.

Any ideas?

luceos how do I update my Debian box to the latest version of Zend? Is the version of zend not part of the application install dependences

It's not zend you need to update, it's PHP. What php version is installed?

Okay, I updated PHP and now Zend OPcache is fine.

But I still get the '500 Internal Server Error' message. I tried also to change the file permission of index.php, but this didn't solve the problem.

My error log:

So, now I solved the problem. My forum is installed on a subdomain and for this I need to set

RewriteBase /

in '.htaccess'.

For uberspace user see wiki.uberspace.de/domain:subdomain#achtung_bei_rewriterules.
