Uppercase > Lowercase Username flagged as Taken

Not sure if it's a bug but adjusting lowercase to uppercase for usernames shouldn't be flagged as duplicate.

For e.g. Adjusting seed to SeeD should be accepted.

Not a high priority fix though. I can overcome this by changing seed > SeeD1 > SeeD

But just pointing it out so the developers sees it.
(I think I have opened quite a few topics today I hope Toby and the team don't see it as a spam) LOL

There's never too much reporting, so long as they aren't things that have been mentioned too many times on the forum already. I assume you're searching before posting?

I disagree with this. From what I can see it is based on characters, not upper and lowercase. Why would someone want to have the same username as someone else?

No no, that's not what I meant.

What I meant was if it's the same user, then the uppercase adjustment should be allowed.

Of course two different users with the name seed and SeeD should be flagged as Taken.

I reported this because when I was testing the forum. I created the admin under the username "seed". But when I wanted to change to "SeeD", it got flagged as Taken.

Toby I'm confused... You want two people to have the same name, but one is capitalized?

So there could be a john and a John? They look the same! (Look closely. The first John isn't capitalized.)

Not to mention, I don't know of a single website with case sensitive usernames. I have to capitalize the D in my name every time I log in?

Davis No, @SeeD is not talking about two different users having the same name with different capitalisations. That's not allowed and it still isn't.

@SeeD is referring to the process of changing the capitalisation in an existing user's username via the "Edit User" modal dialog (admins only). For example, before the fix, if I try and change my name to "tOBY", I get this:

It will become an issue when your members ask you to capitalization of their username.

Another fix for this is to have a "Display Name" field settings for the users. That way users can change their own display name the way they like.

Comes with identity problem but I'm sure the solution can be improved upon.
