Ranking replies by number of likes.

After thinking a lot about the future of forum software, I've come the conclusion that Reddits upvote system is the only way for a modern forum to behave. If you've got an active forum, 80% of the comments/replies are what I would consider low quality, which is why I originally gravitated toward Digg and then Reddit. If you can filter the best replies to the top, the utility of a forum suddenly skyrockets. Can this behaviour be added to Flarum by creating a plugin or would it have to be a core feature? If @Toby and @Franz are serious about advancing forum software, I think this is the way to go, otherwise the changes are only cosmetic (really awesome cosmetic changes though).

I'm also a fan of Reddit's relevance system, however it would behave pretty different from what Flarum does right now. Nothing an Extension couldn't handle, though.

I think this type of behavior is not the only way to go for forums to be relevant these days. In fact, there is a number of things to be said against the quantification of post quality through a simple number of likes. 😉

That said, we definitely need such an extensions, because there are, of course, forums benefiting from such a system. For example, when somebody tries to create a question/answer site like StackOverflow...

Franz Glad to hear it can be added as an extension! I would like to clarify that when I use Reddit and Digg as examples, I'm referring only to their commenting system. And yes I agree it wouldn't work for all use cases.

Franz Q&A forums like StackOverflow would require something like a best answer extension imo.
