Foxxy Not everyone likes it therefore it isn't set by default. You can easily toggle your settings via your user profile (and by clicking Settings).

Prosperous clarkwinkelmann I think you guys are confusing the "Automatically follow discussions that I reply to" with what I'm suggesting. There should be an "Automatically follow discussions that I start". In other words, discussions where you are the OP. I would definitely set that option if it were available but I would not want to follow ALL posts I merely reply to (but am not the OP).

I agree this option should be activated by default but i see is disabled by default. This has no much sense for me, has more sense that if user do not want receive replies on topic posted they can disabled it.

Why an user should post in a forum, and not receive replies by email? If want so have to turn off the option.

Best things is let admin decide if want this turned on or off by default. Seems an extension exist for this but not sure will work on beta 8, for the moment maybe not.

peopleinside you have the freedom to use an extension to make that setting enabled by default 😉

There is an existing one to change default settings by @luceos I believe but I'm not sure if it covers that setting.

I found a solution for this and it works. On line 52 in the following file:
vendor/flarum/subscriptions/extend.php

$event->add('followAfterReply', 'boolval', false);

I replaced this with the one below.
$event->add('followAfterReply', 'boolval', true);

mevove Generally speaking it's not healthy to modify core files directly, any changes you make will break on update or otherwise.

mevove so you are using Flarum without any extension?
If yes you may have spam issue on your forum with time because no re captcha, no extensions to stop spam.
In my Flarum install I need install all protection for spam because start to affect the community registration, post, etc 😀

Edit the core code can be dangerous and you will maybe miss changes on every community update.

The same code from fof/default-user-preferences could be called from the root extend.php if you don't want to use an extension.

Guys is it possible to turn the toggle ON for all profiles to automatic follow discussions?

Braden the last parameter when creating a new preference is the default value. I see there's example for both higher in this discussion.

My own extender has the default value as a parameter.

If you're talking about the "Follow discussions you reply to" permission which is included in the Subscription extension, I'm not sure it can be changed afterwards. But you could fork the extension and make the change in your fork.

i tried to change it in the extend by
from false to

Changing the default value won't affect existing users though, because as soon as they save any preference, that value will also be saved to the database.

clarkwinkelmann Thank you for the info but mostly i havent seen users going into their settings and at least with frequent emails they will get, they will start to notice it ''oh lemme check if i can turn off mail noti's in settings'.
