JUST A REMINDER TO ALL
Flarum is a beta product. The warning about using it at your own risk is on perfect display right now. While we're working to provide support for all the upgrade hiccups, there are some things you can do to avoid the headaches.
FIRST, BEFORE YOU ATTEMPT TO UPGRADE
Read the entire post above. There are new minimum requirements, there are complex instructions and there are caveats about what will or will not work.
If you do not read these, and botch something in the process, you may permanently lose parts of your forum. That leads me to my next point.
SECOND, BACKUP, BACKUP, BACKUP!
I'll say it again. Backup. Backup your database, config.php, composer.lock and assets folder. If something goes horribly wrong in the upgrade, you can use these to restore.
If you are running a forum in production, you should be doing these things anyway.
ONE LAST THING
Please evaluate if your Flarum site really needs to be upgraded. Only do so if you have critical information you cannot lose. The best path from Beta 7.2 to Beta 8 is to install Beta 8 fresh, and reinstall the extensions you want. Many of the support requests are happening during upgrade, and if you're simply upgrading a test forum or a forum you use to play around with, please consider just installing fresh.
