Imgur Upload, simple image upload from the editor

Anyway I'm pretty sure the answer is something that contains "forever", at least until images are still viewed every now and then.

That means visitors should view the forum's page in which they are regularly? And that a never-read topic could lose its images?

Ok I will try (just to be sure before asking them about it, the way we used imgur api for forums and automatic loading is not off the chart of their account rules?)

TB54 it's not AFAIK. But you don't need to mention that, just ask what's the retention policy for images uploaded through the API. Let me know!

Hello. So I asked them the question, and here is their answer

Per our current Terms of Service, uploaded content is not automatically removed after any period of time. However, images can be removed if they breach the terms of service or if we receive a copyright takedown notice for the image. Please take a look at Imgur's terms of service to see if this might apply to your image.

To what I suddenly had another concern: what if anyone comes to the forum and post an illegal image, that I can delete on my forum but not on imgur account (having not access to those images threw the account)? Here was the answer:

I'm, unfortunately, not following what you're referring to here.

Our Terms of Service can be found here: imgur.com/tos where we state:
If you do – and we will be the judge – or if you do anything illegal, in addition to any other legal rights we may have, we will ban you along with the site you're hotlinking from, delete all your images, report you to the authorities if necessary, and prevent you from viewing any images hosted on Imgur.com.

We are always here to help if you have any other questions, comments or concerns.

So I was starting to answer them to explain my concern in more detail, but before that I wanted to be absolutely sure using API on a forum is ok for them (or they could follow back to this extension). Didn't find anything about it in the rules, but still...

matteocontrini Well sorry, but having no answer, I finally wrote to them to ask the question, and their answer was that:

To best understand this, are you saying that you have an option to upload to Imgur built within your site, which then posts to your site directly? I ask as this would violate our Terms of Service as it turns us into a CDN.

So beware, this extension is illegal regarding their terms of service. I didn't mention flarum nor my forum's url in my mail, but they have the link of one of my pictures imgur url (and the imgur account name is the one of my forum), so maybe if they really want to lose their time they can trace it back and find flarum, then this extension.

djemyjenab it's not YouTube in this case. But Streamable, YouTube and others can be auto-embedded using this extension which is active on this forum https://discuss.flarum.org/d/17770-friendsofflarum-formatting

What the function I need is to remove the markdown image button from the flarum editor(only use fof/upload) or change it to upload image.

@matteocontrini seeing how Imgur on May 15 will take down a lot of old pictures as per their new policies, I'm worried about the anonymous upload since they said they'll specifically target that ones (beside nudes and everything, which is not a concern for my forum).

We will be focused on removing old, unused, and inactive content that is not tied to a user account

Is there any way to update this extension in order to upload the images to the same account the client key is associated with, and not anonymously?
Thank you anyway, this extension is the most appreciated by my users (coming from a very old phpBB).

I think I'm misreading what I'm seeing is an image uploaded by another app

nevermind-studio hey, this is technically possible, but it would require a few changes: implementing OAuth authentication with your Imgur account, managing tokens and refreshing them, moving the upload call to the server to avoid leaking tokens.

Unfortunately I'm not that involved into Flarum stuff anymore, I'm committed to maintaining this extension since I know it's helpful to many but adding this feature would mean rewriting a good part of it and I'm unable to do this personally, I'm afraid.

I understand this might be a problem though, if anyone wants to take over the development of the extension and/or fork it, feel free to do that!

I'll probably switch to FoF Upload though and host the images on my server, at least for now. No image-hosting site lives forever, as imageshack once taught me.

After few years use, this is still my favorite.
For some reason, our forum should not host some images. Our thousands of member knew that 😉
So, 3rd party host still required.
And this simple answer, lite extension and fast..
