Installation attempt on bare server

luceos as you see my experience with linux is little.

I've tried:

chown -R php /var/www/html

but:
chown: invalid user: ‘php’

should I create a php user?

pescu25 looks like everything is getting 404 not found. whats in you URL string in config.php?

pescu25 mod rewrite is not working. Make sure you're url rewriting works, either by checking mod rewrite is on and the .htaccess is available in the root of the installation or by fixing the nginx configuration.

at this point I feel a little stuck.

I've checked mod_rewrite, activate it, restart apache2 service.... but the problem remains. It is a little weird because if I go settings, it works but if I reload it shows 404.

In the other hand I have this:

Which I don't know very well where should I config it.

Any help will be appreciated, thanks.

pescu25 does the .htaccess exist?

Check:

Flarum 404: http://178.62.206.184/index.php?login
Apache 404: http://178.62.206.184/foooohai

The installation works, just mod_rewrite doesn't.

Did you:

sudo a2enmod rewrite
check for .htaccess in flarums installation directory
(restart webserver, done quite often)

sorry for the long post, I've also restarted Apache2 several times.

the thing is that if I ls -s in /this/is/my/path/ I do not see the .htaccess but with the sudo nano it appears

first off, use tripple backticks (`) around code to make it appear better.
ls -la will show hidden files, files prepended with a dot are hidden
you are using apache2 not lighttpd, I'm not sure why you installed it, best to delete it
maybe it's easier if you contact me on gitter, I gladly set up an environment for you 😛 No warranties whatsoever though

Fixed by adding to /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/000-default:
