In future updates, can we split post to available discussion? I generally split posts a new one and merge to available one. It would be nice to be able to search like the Merge extension. Thank you to all FoF team for these beautiful extensions.

tolgaaaltas Most likely not, as this is achievable by using both fof/split and fof/merge-discussions. There's not a lot of reasons to add the same functionality to split.

Honestly, these extensions should be merged IMO. You almost always need both of them since they share the same purpose - moving posts between discussions. Requiring two steps for moving posts from one discussion to another is unnatural and looks more like a workaround than complete solution.

I have got an error when i use this extension with merge.

When I split and merge last discussions doesn't load normally and discussion page give an error. If i only split or merge any discussion, not a problem.

Achievable with an high probability of making mistakes and with a lot of noise.

I think that moving a post to another discussion is a very basic function that every forum platform has, and it shouldn't be that hard or require to install two extensions.

I understand your reasoning and for my usage I don't see too many cases where I want to split posts into an existing discussion. However... when splitting posts from an existing discussion it often happens that these are not consecutive. In this case I have to split into two or more separate discussions and then merge these again into one. It can be done but seems awkward and it is definetely error prone.

One more thing: It seems there is an upper limit to the number of posts than can be split at once even when they are consecutive. It used to be in the range of 20 posts in beta 7. Now it seems to be higher but it's still there (about 35 posts when I tested here at discuss.flarum.org).

That just seems to be because the extension uses jQuery to add the button "split to here", so it's not in posts that are loaded after you click "split from here".

Pollux perhaps a "don't split this post" button to make certain ones in the discussion immune from the current selection?

datitisev I can't check now but I think the buttons are actually there but hidden so you can manually force them to show if needed, as a workaround

My idea for any future version would be to add checkboxes and you can select using these which posts should be split; or you could use the "start from here .. to here" functionality and it would toggle those checkboxes allowing you to deselect any you'd need.

Split was never meant to be complex though, keeping an extension simple makes it much easier to upgrade to future versions. I think we should revisit (and very likely remake) all of this once we've reached stable. Building great moderation utilities is really important, but we're still pending an overhaul of the frontend JS which will impact extensive extensions more than the simple ones.

I need this extension and installed it on Beta 11.1 without issues but it contains a bug.

Flarum by default only allow titles with max length of 80 chars, but when you split a discussion and write the new title, you can insert unlimited chars. I think that the same limit of 80 chars should be applied.
