Pollux perhaps a "don't split this post" button to make certain ones in the discussion immune from the current selection?

My idea for any future version would be to add checkboxes and you can select using these which posts should be split; or you could use the "start from here .. to here" functionality and it would toggle those checkboxes allowing you to deselect any you'd need.

Split was never meant to be complex though, keeping an extension simple makes it much easier to upgrade to future versions. I think we should revisit (and very likely remake) all of this once we've reached stable. Building great moderation utilities is really important, but we're still pending an overhaul of the frontend JS which will impact extensive extensions more than the simple ones.

datitisev I can't check now but I think the buttons are actually there but hidden so you can manually force them to show if needed, as a workaround

I need this extension and installed it on Beta 11.1 without issues but it contains a bug.

Flarum by default only allow titles with max length of 80 chars, but when you split a discussion and write the new title, you can insert unlimited chars. I think that the same limit of 80 chars should be applied.

A captain-dummy sort of question here: am I reading right that this moves posts to a new discussion in the same primary tag, and if the posts in fact were off-topic for the tag itself, you'd after-the-fact have to edit the tags to put it into a different primary tag?

bixfrankonis yes. I'm hoping changing the tags on the fly is possible in a future release, either from a contribution or commission.

I have a discussion where the last part of it could be moved as a different thread. But when I use " split here ", I do not see an option to split multiple posts. In the process, I somehow got one topic split, and luckily somehow merge back.

When we use split from here on the 1st post, every post below that get an option to be split as a separate topic.

It is possible that I am doing something wrong. But I tend to assume that " split from here " means from that posts to selected or all the below posts. Sadly I see no option for that at the moment.

What will happen if I remove discussion split information from original and splited discussion? I would like to erase any sign of previous posts from original discussion, but I'm afraid of destroying something.

Sorry to bring this answer up again.
As others already mentioned it is a basic function in many forum platforms. Will it sometime soon be re-discussed to make it a part of the core or at least one extension only?

It might be likely that functionality like this is merged into one moderative extension in the future, when or by whom is unknown.

This question is regarding the new update which is going to come for this extension FriendsOfFlarum/split44

if a discussion has only one post and we move it to a different discussion will the old discussion get redirected to a new one or discussion will be soft-deleted or the old post stays no posts?
