0E800 Wow, thank you (and @webeindustry) so much! I'll have to try this when I get home from work, and will report back.

On a side note, what do people think about serverpilot.io for managing the whole webserver configurations? I'm not an incapable dev or anything, and I could totally figure this stuff out if given enough time, but I'd rather not deal with all the boring configuration steps as its been a while and will take some time for me to ramp up. I like to just dive into the actual php code and have some fun ? let a sys admin handle the server setup for me as he/she likely will do a better job than a newbie like myself.

I noticed the 'default' virtual host was still inside the nginx 'sites-enabled' folder. So I removed that one. Then I started getting 500 errors from nginx:

fox You probably have 512mb. You need 1gb.

However, if you search around this forum, someone did come up with a way to use composer with only 512mb, but they did create a swap.

0E800 Since I encountered this error while composer was installing flarum, is there an easy way to just re-run that process or should I just destroy my droplet and create a new one?

@0E800 one last question. Should I be creating a new user first with limited permission and then running the install script using that user + sudo? Or is running the script as root fine?

Nothing in the script looks malicious, but I'm just wondering about security related to the flarum installation

fox I use Amazon AWS - Similar to DO I believe. Instead of droplets, they are called instances.

When I create instance, it automatically creates a ubuntu user, which is the user I ssh into as.

I run the script with sudo.

Not sure if thats is best practice, but it works for me. I also need to run sudo when using composer and edit config files.

Hope this helps. @webeindustry would probably know best.

0E800 I work at Amazon as an SDE so I am familiar with AWS ? I'm sure that all my questions make me appear pretty noobish, but I'm just trying to set this forum up for a friend and haven't dealt with nginx/php/sys admin stuff in ages. I promise I'm not a total doofus ?

No worries man. No judgment from me. I've been around since Dos, and I had problems getting this thing to install by hand.

After reading through the install script, I was able to recognise where I had been going wrong.

There isn't an obvious security issue with the script, but it is best practice to create the user & run it with sudo.
