Idea: Topic cover backgrounds

I ask before about categories icons/images.. you confirm it will be added in future.

Now I see opportunity to not only have this for categories but also for topics.

We have this horizontal teaser with background color on each category and TOPIC view. So it would be great if topic author can upload cover as background instead this just category color. Extension like this would be nice.

Important thing in this case, that must be implemented with it, like on facebook is do tool to crop/reposition part of image to be shown. Because we have very limited on height, wide panorama here.

Also nice and simple paralax vertical scroll for cover would be nice as option. This give every topic very individual and memorable experience. Because some topics on forums are long as serial (TV show).

PS. There is no Idea tag here?

Would love it. Love the forum software, but it gets really bland and displeasing in some areas such as this.

Topic thumbnails can hook into this concept as well.

purldator Topic thumbnail can be taken from topic icon as I suggested on top. Taking random image from first post can give random not pretty result. Not every image resized into thumbnail will be usable.

That's why I suggested two OPTIONAL image slots.
1. Topic cover (background)
2. Topic custom icon (it can be used as replacement of default author avatar)

Taking automatically every first image from first post, can made ugly, chaotic results.

If someone doesn't care about using separate images slots, then it indicate that topic should be treated like normal topic with regular author avatar. My idea was for users that CARE about topic presentation. Not random junk. There are tons of messy software, Flarum is build to be powerful and simple perfection. With powerful core extensions if someone need them. Using first frontend image can be used as options parameter or as different extension.

Anyway, either @Toby or @Franz not reply in this topic. So we don't know what they think about icon/cover idea.

Oh, i Just found this concept is used already on http://www.producthunt.com/collections - just open any collection to see it's cover background is load upon top color bar.

I'm not sure I'd use it, since I'm rather liking the big bars of solid color at the moment.

But it would be a nice option to have handy as an extension.
