You can use Google Tag Manager to trigger a Google Analytics 4 tag and normally it should work.

FoF Analytics Settings
Add the GTM ID (you can leave the Google Analytics code empty [Tracking Code ID])

Google Tag Manager
Create a GA4 tag with the correct measurement ID.

IanM Is the FoF team planning to add Microsoft Clarity support? Clarity also can collect Google Analytics data directly from Google.

tolgaaaltas it's not something that has been considered so far, that I'm aware of.

I'm having a slight problem with using this plugin to track Matomo visits across subdomains.

The Flarum install is in a subdoman and I want to track visits across both it and the main domain, which would mean that I need the cookie domain to be *.maindomain.com - I don't see any option to do that here, as the plugin automatically sets the cookie domain to be *.subdomain.maindomain.com and there is no way to specify a different cookie domain.

This would be a really good inclusion I think because I'm sure there are far more people who install Flarum in a subdomain than the other way around.

I have set up GA and it is tracking the homepage without any issues.
But when a user clicks on a post, the page view is not firing.

It only fires when I reload the post page.

Example:

mywebsite.com <- Tracking
Navigate to mywebsite.com/d/some-post <- No Tracking
Reload mywebsite.com/d/some-post <- Tracking

Any solutions for this?

a-ssassi-n can you confirm which version of Flarum you are running?

Have you tried other browsers to see if there is a difference?

If you know how to use the browser development tools, could you check if a request is made to Google when you change page? That request could be blocked by the browser or a browser plugin.

I am using Flarum 0.1.0-beta.14.1
I just checked the same with Edge Browser and the same issue.
Yes I checked the Network tab and the call is being made to Google Analytics only on the first-page load and only on reload and not during navigation.

Below is a screenshot of the GA collect request that gets fired only on the first-page load or when the page reloads.

Seems like it's working fine for others (from the comments) but it doesn't seem to work for me
Anything I might be doing wrong?

More info:

I am not using GA 4
fof/analytics version is 0.10.1
I am a developer so if you suggest me to check a specific tech thing, I can. (for debugging this issue)

a-ssassi-n I don't understand much about Google Tag Manager, which you are using, but it seems that the extension is pushing an even named "custom event" to GTM:

I guess you would need to setup a trigger in the GTM admin panel to make the event work and be actually pushed, and then link it to a Google Analytics page view (somehow).

Its possible to run a cookieless, but you need to add a line to the script

FrederikDan there is no official way to do it at this time.

You can edit the piwik-analytics.html file in the vendor folder https://github.com/FriendsOfFlarum/analytics/blob/master/resources/js/piwik-analytics.html but there's a risk the changes will be lost every time you install or update any extension.

A more reliable solution would be to use the Flarum frontend content extender, and loop though $document->head, find the javascript block for Matomo and perform a string modification on it.

I encounter an error, people might be losing visits.

If we use the normal Tracking Code ID UA-XX
And adding the GTM code ID's

That way it will track the first visit when you enter the url but will not track when you start navigating.

If you use GTM code ID's alone, without Tracking Code ID UA-XX , the same thing will happen, no tracking when you start navigating.

But if you use Tracking Code ID UA-XX , only, without putting GTM id's , it will track all pages you are navigating.
