@clarkwinkelmann Maybe it could work together with for/pretty-mail reusing its default template and its variables without putting much effort in it.

Maybe lame question but I'm facing an issue with sending HTML messages. I made a template with MJML exported to HTML copied and clicked send... I get the popup message 'High 5' but I don't receive it. Turned on debug but I don't see anything that could interrupt it. Plain text is working without issues. So ... where do I start digging? Or HTML messages are not supported?

Maybe, but I'm not putting any unpaid effort into this extension 😇

Email is send as type "raw" using the Laravel Mailer library https://github.com/clarkwinkelmann/flarum-ext-mailing/blob/master/src/Jobs/SendMail.php#L29 I'm not actually sure whether HTML is supported.

I'd recommend looking in your outbound mail server logs to see what happened to the email. Most of the third-party SMTP servers have a web UI where you can see each request.

I have never actually used this extension in production myself. I have only ever tested it with data my clients provided to me. I don't think sending HTML has ever been tested as a requirement.

Spooonky adding the opt-out feature is a bit complicated with the current extension.

The easiest would probably be a global opt-out, where the user can refuse all emails from the extension. That's maybe 1-2 hours of work. If we want to add an option for admins to bypass the opt-out when sending an email, maybe 15-30min more work.

What I'd really like to do is a proper newsletter extension, so that users can opt in and out of various lists and admins can track who is subscribed to what. But this will be tens of hours of work, so that's not happening before next year.

Adding support for HTML is complicated as well because a lot of testing will be necessary. Might be 2 hours of work or more, and would still just be copy-pasting of a full email HTML, not a visual editor. I would probably need to implement some sort of variable injection system so you can get access to the opt out URL and the username/display name from inside a custom template, because I don't see how I could automatically merge this together without an advanced templating system.

Okay, the opt in / out variant omitted; what if you took the template for the mailing extension that you configured with Pretty Mail so that the extension works with it. Then you would save yourself the configuration of the HTML editor.

An additional newsletter extension would also be pretty awesome.

And it won't be needed for this year anyway. At the earliest for mid / end of January.

Geraldlzc this is probably expected.

Your web server/proxy will automatically kill the connection and/or the process if it takes too long. You can usually change that value, but it can increase the risk of being used against you in a service denial attack.

This extension supports queues to send email. If you send many emails, you should take a look at the Flarum database or Redis queue extensions. The extension should automatically use the queue once configured.

Without a queue, it's expected that the request might time out. It's possible the webserver times out, but doesn't kill the PHP process. In this case, it's possible that the request finished successfully but the client side shows an error.

You can use one of the queue extensions to enable mail processing in the background.

the description, i think its exactly what am missing, although i haven't been able successful to set any cron job in my hosting. All time the cron jobs dont work ☹️ drafts i already tried

it wont be nice to install extension that i wont use. I wish you could hop-in sometime and find where its the issue.

allen13 Looks like your email config is incorrect.

allen13 based on the error message this doesn't seem to be a problem caused by my extension.

It seems like the Swift library was unable to validate your mail server's TLS certificate.

Maybe the queue worker is running on a different server that doesn't have an up to date CA bundle? Or a different PHP version that doesn't load the same CA bundle as the version used by the webserver. Could also be proxy/firewall related if the PHP process runs on a different host or in a containerized environment.

Do other Flarum emails send fine via the queue? I'm not sure all Flarum emails are queuable but I believe most will be.
