What do you mean, community created extensions? Isn't the community already making extensions?

I'm not sure why you'd want to complicate this into a procedure. Especially because it hangs at the last step anyway ?

Each staff member is very aware of newly released extensions. So if there is an obvious need to add it to these forums, it will most probably be added anyway.

Personally I think these forums need to be as minimalistic as possible, to show the strength of Flarum without 3rd party extensions.

luceos I thought the entire point to Flarum was the extendability. I wouldn't want to advertise our forums as featureless. The community forums is the demo for the website, it should be packed with useful features.

Why add the steps? Because when Flarum becomes more popular, we don't want the Flarum team looking at all the new extensions, we want a select few for them to look at. Also, by collecting data from the Comunity on if they think the extension would be useful and wanted on the site, it makes the decision easier for the last step.

It's a good process, but personally (and selfishly) I'd prefer every core team member be focused on the core. ?

I hate to keep drawing comparisons to WordPress, but the WP core team doesn't approve/disapprove of any extensions. It's up to the community and their reviews to determine the best and worst stuff. And even then, individuals can pick and use whichever extensions they like.

We need them to approve the extensions before they're added to ensure they are following the vision of Flarum.

Davis Ah gotcha. Well I still think Flarum.org should be showcasing the base product. Otherwise they will end up "supporting" all of the extensions they showcase.

JRay the thing is, the base product is not that impressive to regular people. It looks nice but it's very lacking in features. One of our competitors discourse may end up showcasing more features and end up being "better" in the untrained eye. Flarum is a community project. It is on github after all. We should be able to have extensions featured on the website that showcase the potential of Flarum.

Davis I don't know if this product is for "regular" people. This is not a commercial product so not designed to appeal to the masses. I think anyone like ourselves who is looking for this type of thing will evaluate what's out there and pick the best option for them.

I absolutely agree with that. And that's where the Extension Marketplace should come in once done ? with ratings and other fanciness included.

Most of us team members are Flarum users, too. We also want to see what goodies are out there for us to use. Don't think I won't be keeping eyeballs on the Extensions tag and looking at each and every extension out there. Even if something like Gravitar support doesn't interest me, I know it's out there.
