Another forum that I run with Flarum is https://forum.nazareth-kinder.de/
This is a locked down forum, so that only registered users can read the posts, and new people cannot just register themselves. This can easily be done in the Administration section of Flarum:
- in Permissions: Read, View Discussions: Members, not Everyone
- in Permissions: Read, Sign up: Closed, not Open
We use the extension Post Notification, so that the volunteers of the charity will be notified when someone posts an article: https://discuss.flarum.org/d/20750-post-notifications-per-e-mail
We add users directly in the database, I should start looking at the existing extensions for doing it more comfortably.
The Nazareth Charity is a group of volunteers in Germany, who support a small but important orphanage in Kenia. We use Flarum to distribute news updates among the volunteers. We could use it for discussion as well, but it rarely happens. It is good to have a central place for information, that keeps the record over the years. Also it is better than sending emails to a group of volunteers, with new people joining or others leaving, not everyone will keep track of the current email addresses.
