Hello everyone,
Since the release of ReCache the main issue that users have experienced is performance. After troubleshooting all of these issues, the end cause ended up being a poor quality host. Once users switched to a better host all issues were resolved.
What to take away:
ReCache is no substitute for a quality and reputable host. If you are experiencing slow downs throughout Flarum, you are better off switching to a better host, or upgrading your plan.
When installed on a sub par host, ReCache can make performance issues more pronounced. If you install it and your forum becomes slower rather than faster, it is definitely time to change hosts.
I have compiled a non-comprehensive list of scenarios and whether ReCache can help. Remember, these are all relative, if a fresh installed Flarum is slow you should immediately think about switching your provider, but if it has slowed down overtime ReCache can help you out:
- Posting discussions/posts takes a long time
- Switch to a different host or upgrade your plan (ReCache can't help)
- Loading the forum takes a relatively long time
- ReCache can help
- Also ensure your host has a high bandwidth link to your server
- Switching to new tags or click on discussions is slow
- Discussions with images take a while to render
- User registration takes a long time
- ReCache can't help
- Switch to a new provider or upgrade your plan
Real example:
@[deleted] had recently installed ReCache and was using Contabo, a seemingly quality shared hosting provider. His forum was slow right out of the gate, ReCache made the issue more pronounced. After speaking with me, he switched to a very similar plan with another host, his performance issues immediately subsided and ReCache was able to super charge his forum.
