Fixes #1.
- Added support for MariaDB versions prior to v10.2.7 that do not have the JSON column data type support that was added in v10.2.7 and later.
- I tested this on MariaDB v10.1.41, the latest MariaDB v10.4.8), and MySQL v8.0.15.
Corrected a single grammatical error in the English language translation file and ended up changing the wording around as well 🤷

Given that this has some migration and translation changes, please be sure to run the following commands in the root directory of your Flarum installation to update this extension properly:

composer update fof/username-request
php flarum migrate
php flarum cache:clear

@Artuu @Allineer @SKevo @Sanguine @ram0ng1 and whoever else I missed, this should fix your SQL syntax issues upon activating this extension again 😄

Ralkage Yay. I can install this now. On a philosophical note: I wonder what the purpose of the request, mod must approve, set up is?

On one hand I understand why: maybe the moderator won’t want to allow someone to change their username. On the other hand, if you have this feature why would you ever deny someone’s request? Is this approval step there to prevent abuse (someone changing their name daily)? If yes, there are websites which allow unrestricted username changes; how do they handle it?

010101 a user can simply be denied a username change request simply because the proposed username doesn't follow community rules (if they were even created in which every growing community needs rules to run efficiently). Some users even often change their username more than once in a week or month which can be tiresome and to others, pretty darn annoying 🙂 That's also why a username change request history was added so that these changes can be kept track of in case an audit or proof username changes is needed.

To tackle restricting excessive username change requests, a limit per group could be added or even a global option to set a max limit.

Feature request: a way to access the user profile from the change request.

Use case: I want to scan the user posts to see if their new name matches with their website name or recently discussed topics.

At the moment it requires me to copy the username, paste it in the search bar and then click on the correct profile.

Also it could be interesting to list the user's previous requests (accepted and denied) inside the request modal so that mods can know the history even if they didn't handle the previous cases (maybe that's implemented and I never saw it? I suppose it's not)

As for your other request, a username change history should already be implemented in this extension and should be viewable on the user’s profile if I’m not mistaken. It should be on its own UserPage if I’m also not mistaken from the last time I worked on this extension.

Ralkage Does it include previously denied requests + reasons? At least to the user themselves and those with the permission to approve change requests?

I mostly noticed this while browing the requests here on Discuss. As a mod I would like to see as much relevant information in the modal, so I can make an informed decision without checking all of the user profile manually.

I am also getting the same error, when username tries to request a change.

Is anyone else facing this? Any suggestions for a fix?

Hi, Is password confirmation really necessary for the request? If user is already logged in.

Solaris yes, to prevent potential account hijacking 🙂 You’d be surprised about how many accounts are brute forced into in other services and apps and they change everything from username to email typically in any order. It’s an extra layer of security seeing as you’re changing your account information and it’s always good to have an extra confirmation just to be sure that you were sure about submitting the request 😉

mehtaatur have you checked if the permission for this extension is set correctly under the Permissions tab in the Admin area?

It should say "Request username change". under the "Create" section on that page.
