Flarum looks nice, I just didn't like it's editor. It's so basic. Can we have something that TinyMCE offers?

I like the current text editor, just want something more similar to Discourses text editor since everything on Discourse acts like a comment system. Then again that's basically what posts and replies are.

I want to make bold text, and want to color it. That thing is missing here. Also, I don't see any forum signature feature yet!

Going by the documentation it appears forum signatures will be, at most, a plugin. Basic forum usage doesn't require signatures.

Markdown will work for some things like bold text.

I imagine a wysiwyg extension will be available shortly after release by a community member.

I don't have a problem with markdown (or even BBCode) but I think most people will have difficulties, especially non-techies. Not everyone is familiar with markdown formatting.

It doesn't have to be WYSIWYG but I think buttons like bold, italic, list, hyperlink (with anchor), image, etc would be needed.

Or else, the forum will need to have a dedicated page just to explain how markdown works.

Darmawan To teach markdown it would also be easier to apply a subtle style instead of a full WYSIWYG. A good example is stackedit.io where the markdown code is not obscured, but the text does style according to what markdown is there. Here's a screenshot to show what I am attempting to explain. I italicized "purrled" and linked to a youtube video. You can see how the editor made subtle style differences but did not completely render the markdown.

But I agree that a simple button strip above the text area will satisfy both parties, if only to help with teaching Markdown. Sometimes even I use it on occasion.

cenascuvox 99% of internet users doesn't have a clue what HTML is. They know to open IE, type something in search and bam, it shows!

They're not going to be familiar with wrapping tags in the text editor to make their font bold.. they're looking for the "B" button for that.

BoostN For those people, a very simple visual editor (extension) should exist. Something that simply automatically applies markdown to the post so they can see in the live editor (which should display automatically IMO) what is causing it to bold, italic, etc.
Simple stuff like

Bold
Italic
Bullet Point
Horizontal Line

and that's it. Other stuff like strikethrough, Headers, etc should be reserved for those to are interested in learning markdown (since they apparently want increased control over formatting)

Markdown is used heavily on Reddit, arguably the biggest forum in the world. I prefer it actually.
