We just had our kick off meeting, a week after the release of beta 11.
Beta 11 contained smaller changes and fixes. It seems the larger tasks had to be postponed for one reason or another. Understanding this we decided on:
- A different development process. Two weeks before the beta 12 release we will be preparing the release by branching master to a version branch. This branch will then be used by our QA to adequately test while development continues on planned tasks.
- Prioritization of tasks that had been postponed for a long time.
- Moving forward with the stale bot to close older/inactive issues soon. This helps bring back focus to our issue tracker. We can still re-open issues that are important.
We've noticed some increased activity from Asian users interested in moving over to the official Flarum software. Their biggest issue is UTF8 support, we've added related issues to our backlog.
In addition to this, we've also started a trial run with a trainee. During the coming two development cycles @tankerkiller125 will tackle gradually more complicated issues while under guidance of a dedicated staff member. We will announce this traineeship in more detail once we're more confident about its success.
As a last note, the holidays are coming up. This means a lot of festivities for most of us and also lower activity than usual. I hope everyone understands that this also impacts our next release somewhat and as such we had to delay it by a few weeks. Our experience with previous cycles makes me confident to say we are targeting beta 12 for March 2020.
