Allow to start discussion in certain tag only for one user group

I would like to have user group "Newbies" (green in pictures), that will be assigned to new users after registration. Newbies will be allowed to create discussions and post to only one tag "Introduce yourselves" ("Predstavte se" in pictures). Moderators then cen promote users to user groups that can post everywhere.
How do I do it? I tried:

--> But Newbies can create discussions anywhere.

--> Now Newbies cannot create discussions at all.

--> This way it behaves like I want for newbies, but I need to list all other groups for all other tags so they can create discussions.

Is there any better way how to do it?

Flaiming Moderators then cen promote users to user groups that can post everywhere.

You should set the Start Discussion permissions to these groups rather than to Members as currently set. Then the Newbies group will be unable to start discussions outside of the explicit tags that allow them.

Permissions in specific tags should be additive, so global permissions should not be required. As Clark says, the button itself might be odd. Try starting a discussion in the tag itself and see if that works Flaiming.

I have just tested locally and it seems to work.

Sometimes odd things happen with the "start discussion" button when you're only allowed to post in some of the tags, but as long as everything you can see matches with everything where you can post, it seems to be all right.

At first I couldn't believe it because it contradicted my previous explanation that tags were only able to further restrict the allowed audience and not expand it. But that's not what Clark said. He said:

Obviously, "global" does not act like a tag. I have always thought that "global" is a kind of invisible and non-removable default tag applied to all discussions. We can still see it that way, with the one exception that "global" restrictions can not only be tightened but also relaxed by tags.

This looks like good news for you: You can restrict "global" to regular members and setup a special tag for new members. Simple as that.

I want Newbie group ("Nováčci", green one) to start discussions only in tag "Představte se" (first from right), not be allowed to start discussions anywhere else. With this settings Newbies cannot create discussions at all.
