Forums activity wall

I'm not sure if many of you are familiar with Vanilla, a popular forums software. They have a cool feature "activity wall" which is a seperate place that you can just talk in without having to bump discussions to only say hi for example, mainly a place to avoid being warned for necrobumping and necroposting. Personally, I think it's a really cool feature to keep the discussions clean of unnecessary comments and also lets users interact more with each other. Would be glad to see it being adopted by the Flarum team.

Hi! Unfortunately, I don't think this would be adopted as a core feature anytime in the near future: we have priorities we need to stick to (especially getting out our stable release). However, this sounds like excellent grounds for an extension! Xelson's live chat extension (https://discuss.flarum.org/d/5133-wip-extension-realtime-chat-with-pusher/11) might cover some of your requirements.

One extension that I'm planning to make personally (if no one beats me to it) is a "user wall" page, where people can leave comments on a user's profile. Haven't started on that though.

Exactly, that's how activity wall on vanilla forums works, you basically leave comments on other users profiles. The only thing is that it's made for the public; for example user X leaves a comment on user Y profile. Everyone else can see user X's comment without needing to visit user Y profile. Basically the activity wall is some place to see all the comments. As well as leaving comments for the public without the need to post it on someone else's profile.

[deleted] the way I see this, many forum admins want to have a lightweight social platform aspect to their forums. It shouldn't be mandatory, of course, but it CAN be a useful addition, making it a great extension candidate.

askvortsov yes, I agree. They're are some purists who will only want a forum, but then I see the appeal for extending the community as well.
