bavard simple fact that it is a protest indicates that it is political
If you define any form of speech or social movement as political, then sure, this is political. I believe that a person should not be discriminated against, harassed, attacked, or murdered, as we have seen happen all too often, because of their race. If that's a political statement, so be it.
bavard to whom you can discriminate, to whom can be killed by whom
Hopefully no one? In the 21st century, designating ANY groups as "can be discriminated", or "can be killed", especially on the basis of something that they can't control, is just morally wrong.
bavard you are the very victim of these political groups who have manipulated you for their own profit
How exactly am I a victim? Who is profiting here? I don't think anyone here is endorsing/supporting violence on the part of looters/rioters.
I believe that kneeling on someone's neck for 8 minutes while they cry out that they're choking is not ok. I believe that shooting an unarmed person because of racial stereotypes is not ok. I believe that militarization of police is unwarranted, dangerous, and counter-productive . I also believe that shooting rubber bullets at peaceful protestors and journalists is not ok. I am not in support of rioters, looters, anarchists, or violence. I am in support of fairness and human rights. I do not see how this is remotely a controversial opinion.
bavard immediately triggers riots
bavard campaign, should I say this propaganda
Congratulations, you've linked the least trustworthy media source in the continental US as a reference. I'll take a brief detour here to talk about conspiracy theories and propoganda. As someone who has managed teams both big (130+) and small, I can say that coordinating even small groups of people to work efficiently is insanely difficult, especially if the coordination needs to be done in secrecy. By Occam's Razor, conspiracy theories don't work.
As to propoganda, I'm very careful about where I get my facts, usually referencing 3-4 media sources on a given issue (yes, including both left and right leaning sources). And none of them are trying to sell me "Bone broth" or "Magic DNA Pills". I form my opinions based on facts and data, which I try to corroborate from as many independent sources as I can, preferably supported by experts.
bavard are you going to become like facebook and have your own political police to censor and ban users who don't share your views ?
Please do note that you have not been censored or banned. Rather, just as you have voiced your opinions, others have voiced theirs. In a world of fake news, misinformation, and echochambers, respectful, measured conversation is absolutely crucial.
bavard You are imposing this black theme because you want "things to change"
Yes, I want things to change. I want to live in a world where people don't have to fear for their lives because of their race, and where the police can be considered a trusted, helpful part of the community by ALL. I believe that's a better world to live in.
bavard you think imposing your views is the best way to have people change their thinking.
Nope. I don't think that changing the color of the background of this website will change anyone's minds. But when people speak up and show solidarity with a cause, it increases the legitimacy of that cause. The more and more people speak up, the easier it is for others to join in.
bavard YOU ARE NOT RESPECTING THE FREEDOM OF THOUGHT
I am not forcing you to think a certain way: this very conversation should be proof of that. I am (I believe) respectfully presenting my arguments and thoughts. You may listen or you may not, that is up to you. "Freedom of thought" does not mean that you are isolated from any and all opposing viewpoints, that would be "freedom of absense of thought". "Freedom of thought" means that you are free to form your own opinions based on the information that's out there, just as I am free to form mine.
bavard AS LONG AS THE VALUES ARE NOT IMPOSED ONTO THE CUSTOMERS
No one is forcing you to think in any given way. If you feel "imposed upon" by statements from companies and brands, you are doing something wrong. No one is forcing you to agree with, or adopt, those viewpoints.
bavard was not branding, it was propaganda
Propoganda is defined as
information, especially of a biased or misleading nature, used to promote or publicize a particular political cause or point of view.
I fail to see how the statement "People of color, minorities, and anyone for that matter should not have to fear for their lives from institutions that are supposed to protect us" is biased, misleading, or political. Do you disagree with that statement, or find it somehow radical?
I'll mention one more thing. The notion that this situation is homogenous is a complete and utter logical fallacy. I can condemn police brutality, militarization, and racial violence, but still believe that law enforcement can, and should be, a force for good. I can support the cause and support peaceful protesters and demonstrators, while still condemning looters, rioters, anarchists, and marauders.
We here at Flarum are not a faceless corporation. We are a team of 12 volunteers who are passionate about building forum software that's fun to use. We decided to support this because we, as individuals, believe that
