This is the same method developers use to test/develop extensions locally.

Another option is to make use of the extend.php that's at the root of your forum. From that file you can do everything an extension can do without using composer to install a local repo.

If you're making a substantial extension, my recommendation would be the workbench method. It's a lot easier to manage and run in the long term.

On a performance aspect, the difference is negligible. Having many extensions with an extend.php in each or a single massive extend.php will result in the same code being executed.

Using a single massive extension would have the very very very tiny advantage of loading less files in the PHP process.

Is it possible to upload extension to Packagist without appearing on Flagrow or Extiverse?
I have Serbian language already translated, now I made some changes in language and added some translated bundled extensions to it but it's adapted mostly for my forum so don't want to mix with original language but still want to upload it on Packagist and easy install that adapted version of language.

bryantmilan Packagist is a public repository. Everyone can see what's on it. Extiverse automatically scans it for Flarum extensions.

If you want your extension to be private, you might want to distribute it another way.
