Is there any plans to add gamification features to Flarum ? Features like special badges, awards, trophies etc. I guess it would be an interesting member motivation feature.

I can assure you it won't be. It would personally be a huge surprise if it would be released with the stable release. So either someone else beats the core team to it, or you'd have to wait until a bit after the stable release.

I'd like to add to this, I am currently working on a user management system. As soon as I am done with this I will start working on this system. My current plans are: ranks that can be gotten from post counts etc, hook into likes extension, customizable rank names, criteria, etc

I say we base it all off conditional criteria like for say give the user some options to choose from and they can create conditions off those options.

Option: Posts
Conditional Textbox Input: >= 100
Achievement: Life of the Party! ?

Display Options: UserCard in posts and even a special widget for user profiles.

I'll commit some mockups we can work off.

Awards can be manual and we can even push a karma system in the mix ?

Lastly to add, further development can lead to other 3rd party extension support. ?

Hey, thanks for starting this. Here is an example that I feel is perhaps the best gamification I have ever seen in a forum (using xenforo in this case):

Post | You make a post = 5 points per like
Like | A person likes your post = 5 points
Speed | High likes per post ratio in a day (5 of each maybe ?) = 100 points

Transfer Reputation: on the fastlaneforum.com you can actually give some of your points to another person. Not sure whether its a good idea overall, but I have used it on that forum to "really like" a post.

bitcoin / ether: I am playing with it on another forum (using Vanilla). I am learning Ethereum's Solidity language now... If it works with Vanilla, it will work with any API. I'll post it here if it works.

crypto That is a feature for " money " system, right ? We already have a " money " extension.

meetdilip Well, it doesn't have to be "money" per se. Just some kind of points that indicate reputation (sort of like Stack Overflow or whatever). On the Fast Lane Forum I mentioned as an example, the points are displayed as USD, but are really just points.

Reputation Transfer on that forum actually allows a person to give earned points to another user in any amount(!). As I said, I am not sure this is a good idea for overall forum health, but it does allow some interesting interaction on that forum that I have not seen on any other.

What I am personally working on is a set of Ethereum Solidity contracts that tie to the Vanilla forum API so that this might involve actual spendable currency. If I can get it to work, I will try to get it to work for Flarum as well, since I actually like Flarum better than Vanilla...

I am not clear. Why not just name " money " as " points " ? Works the same, right ?

meetdilip Some people like multiple implementations of the same idea for different flavor.

meetdilip Yes, you are right... they are essentially the same. The unique idea is being able to give some of your (points | money | reputation) to another person.

Maybe, however, I can tie actual money (Ethereum Ether... like Bitcoin) to the points. Now wouldn't that be cool?
