Edit: The "View post IP addresses" permission must also be assigned to the groups you want to be able to view IP's for in posts. You can find that permission under "Moderation" in the Permissions tab in the Admin CP.

      how popular is your flarum? I use to had vanilla but it was vunerable and spam infested when it wasn't even advertised. everything good so far.

        userb I am getting a decent amount of traffic right now and users are starting to pick up but I really am not that big yet.

            MikeJones Can you send me the details of that spam post (what made it stand out)? We handle quite some ourselves here on discuss, I prevent (auto-block) specific types of spam already by using a local extender which I could push into a repository with some configuration options.

                    MikeJones I've had several users with usernames like that register on one of my forums, didn't post anything but the emails seems super suspicious to me when I checked outgoing email history on my mail server. Something interesting to note is that they never verified their accounts. The only thing I can think of is that the Custom HTML email prevented them from registering.

                      I kid you not for the past 2 days I've been having Flarum/programming related dreams.

                      Last night, I dreamt that there was a flood of spambots that invaded Discuss and they kept replicating each time we kept banishing them. It's just one of those mysteries that come part of the Internet that we still don't know how they manage to bypass these anti-spambot systems we put in place or if they are just really humans doing the manual hustling 🤣

                        luceos I just got another one. I deleted it so my viewers can see it but I did not delete forever so I can still access it. I am suspending the account though.

                        What details can I grab for you and is there anything else I can do?

                          1. Setup a Captcha
                          2. Setup some proxy with WAF (could be free cloudflare which is easy to setup, but there is plenty of local self-hosted to choose from as well)
                          3. Install fail2ban, do proper config for flarum logs 😉
                          4. You can feed your fail2ban with some blacklists and reporting your blacklisted IP as well to help communities
                          5. Ban and delete posts everyone who get trough anyway manually. But this is last resort - don't relay on it, as on some scale - you will be overflow with SPAM messages.

                            meetdilip I've removed the links from the quoted spam. I think it's fine to share what that spam is but removing the links is a must for security reasons as well as ensuring that google doesn't flag our site for linking back to that content.

                              I wanted to give the original spam content as luceos mentioned about some effort into auto-blocking of common spam posts. That is why I didn't remove the links. But yes, nice that it is gone now 🙂
