BenFlarum I'm unable to replicate the issue when using the same values on my test website on Flarum 1.2.

Make sure the user has permissions "Start discussions without approval" and "Reply to discussions without approval". User must only be denied "Post without first post approval" permission for this extension to trigger.

EDIT: to address the deleted post question, it's absolutely intentional. The recorded number of approved posts never goes down by design, as you don't want to lose posting ability just because a post was deleted after being successfully approved.

Thank you so much. The issue with my permissions. Somehow the 'Start discussions without approval' (and the reply to discussion without approval') was set to mods and not members. Once I changed that, everything started working as expected. Thanks again!

I have been using this extension since last year and just realized that there is a problem with the number of posts when approving a message from a new user.

Today someone new has registered and has written 4 messages and they have all been waiting for my approval. In the settings I have set that it must have at least one post to avoid spammers. When I approved them I noticed that the number of messages in the user's profile is still 0, is it a problem with this extension?

I have been using this extension for a while, good stuff thanks 😁 The only thing that seems a bit clumsy, is that new users don't receive email notification once their first post is approved and initially replied to (because they can't subscribe to their own un-approved post). This leads to new users making posts, and never returning because they don't know the post was approved and replied to. Any thoughts on this?

KarlWard to further make it difficult for new users there’s no mail notification for moderators either, and so they can’t react quickly to approve new posts. I’ve been to forums where I post and wait for somebody to react and I’ve hated it so much I abandoned it.

KarlWard CyberGene those are probably issues that should be fixed in Flarum's own Approval extension, as I don't think it's specific to my extension?

clarkwinkelmann yes, those are probably feature requests for Flarum core, to extend notifications.

Hello, the extension appears to be broken with Flarum 1.4.0 (not sure about 1.3.0, skipped that). Even if the number of posts to approve is set to 0, posts from new users are put under approval.

Anyone else experiencing this issue? Thanks.

EDIT: is this perhaps related to the changes in how the post number is now calculated?

Fixed compatibility with Flarum 1.3+ when "number of discussions" setting is used
Compile assets with Webpack 5

The Flarum 1.3 issue caused new posts to be evaluated like if they were new discussions when a number of discussions was required, which would send all replies for approval even if the setting only required approval for discussions. The issue was not present if the "number of discussions" setting was configured as zero.

I have a question. Maybe I am not understanding how to properly use the extension.

Those are my settings.

My understanding was that with these settings, only users should be flagged who haven't posted yet.

However, as you can see with the following example, it's also flagging posts from users with more than 1 posts.

have you checked to run the latest version of the extension? What version of the extension are you running?
the issue is not present if the extension is disabled, have you tested?

orschiro note that the totals are only updated with discussions and posts created while the extension is enabled. Discussions and posts that existed prior are not counted. See section in the README:

Manually changing the count only affects the working of the extension but won't affect the post count displayed publicly to the user, right?

orschiro the values of the 2 database columns used by this extension are not shown anywhere in the interface, so you can store any value there, nobody will ever see it. It's only read and updated by the extension. The public post and discussion count is updated separately by Flarum.

How about adding a button in the extension panel so that existing users’ post and discussion counts are copied and used as approved posts/discussion counts correspondingly?

CyberGene this can definitely be added. If someone wants to sponsor the feature, it shouldn't be a lot of work.

If done as a CLI command, it's probably around half an hour of work.

Ideally the command would need to subtract any post currently under moderation if you plan to run it in a production forum that has pending post approvals.

Just got spammed attacked last night. This extension saved me again and blocked all 5 posts!

Every time I get spammed, I take it as a badge of honor that they think my small website is worth spamming 😆
