Hi, thank you for all.
Can I say that I hope in Beta 15 will be available a fix that block suspended user from changing his own avatar?
I know is an issue know and already reported also by me, just hope to be able to manage well abusive users account.
You cannot deny them to login so there is no way actually to lock changing of avatar.

As feature I suggest also user profile should have report button to report to moderators with a motivation maybe avatar copyright or abusive username, etc.

Yet another update (YAU) from another pair programming session between @askvortsov and myself:

Slug drivers and extenders have been official built and working as intended, the PR is now waiting for the two approvals required for merge. (flarum/core2456) (once we change it's draft status)
Made the min search length a constant (extensions can override) which is part of our UTF-8 PR above
We built an official nicknames extension, it is not feature complete yet and still requires changes but we're waiting on the AdminUX PR before we continue work (so we don't do twice the work), some important notes on this extension:
- It will be fairly basic, but powerful enough for the majority of use cases
- It changes the way that names are displayed properly (display name driver extender)
- Nicknames are searchable properly
- This is our solution to non-latin character names, we determined that allowing non-latin characters in usernames was a complexity that was better solved via a simple extension that changed the user nickname/display names. Mostly due to way our composer works and how mentions works.
- Only compatible with future beta 15 release (and other future versions)
- Extension name subject to change

While this won't fix all of the UTF-8 (non-latin) character issues, it will fix some of the largest issues with it, we will continue working on this area to make sure that Flarum is accessible and usable to everyone regardless of language. We can't thank our translators enough for their incredible work every release of both core and community extensions that support it. Their efforts don't go unnoticed, and hopefully these changes will make international communities even better in other areas.

ctml It does! We're planning to add regex validation (that's the stuff we're waiting on Admin UX for) so forum owners can add restrictions, but by default it can be anything (including Utf8)

That's sweet. Are there any permission controls setup for this, for admins to set and lock the nickname for all users?

ctml We will be adding permissions as well (although the level of permissions hasn't been defined yet) but again this is something we're waiting on the Adminx UX update.

Is the basic functionality of a Nicknames extension that your username does not have to be the same as your display name?

cmwetherell So the idea behind it is that your username (what you register with) might be "testuser" but the nickname you (or an admin sets) might be something like "Benutzer testen" the nickname will also support UTF-8 like "测试用户" these names will be searchable, and usable, but extensions like mentions will use the latin character set username for processing.

This is essentially the same way that twitter does things, the username must be in the latin character set, but the display name people really see can be basically anything.

tankerkiller125 I was just thinking yesterday... hmm, I wish users could display their real first and last name if they want.

One feature to consider: Allow admin to disallow nickname changes. I don't want people in my forum changing their user name - people build a "brand" on a forum and it's good if people know who you are.

cmwetherell it's an optional extension, if you don't want people changing their name simply don't enable the extension. By default we will likely leave it disabled.
