giter I would especially like to see a fixed place at the bottom of each post (/d/1) for advertising content (not just ads, of course, but anything else you want to put), and I think it would look great to add, for example, copyright information after each post (/d/1).
hrvoje_hr For me Ads extension should: Track number of clicks and impressions Allow number of different positions like between N number of posts/discussions, sidebar... Have an option to place multiple ads on the same position with % (or ratio) slider for distribution Compatible with permissions (in case to allow one group do be ad free)
hrvoje_hr luceos how native ads can affect GDPR compliance? There is no data collecting. For Adsense I think it's enough to warn about it on privacy policy page and link Adsense policy URL.
MikeJones hrvoje_hr adsense has a new tool you can add that lets people opt out of tracking on a site and the they just show generic ads. I have it on my flarum. Its a new tool from them so it kind of not always displays. But its into when it does.
[deleted] hrvoje_hr actually, you'd be surprised. Users should have the ability to opt out of campaigns such as this as it affects their privacy if it is being forced on them. Essentially, tracking indicates you are following what they do in the site. Hotjar does this, and often finds itself in beach of regulation as a result.
010101 [deleted] Isn’t @hrvoje_hr talking about a native manual type ad? Like you upload an image which is the ad. Which has no tracking. That would not be against any gdpr rules right? You're just showing someone a picture at that point. Basically how websites did ads before Adsense and related stuff. Old school ads. If a company wants to advertise on your site they must send you a 1000x1000 png. You charge them X$, and display it for a while.
[deleted] 010101 yes, but these types of ads get served by JavaScript which usually features some form of tracking. In addition, to be fully compliant with GDPR, such ads should also respect the Do Not Track feature of the browser if it's enabled.
010101 [deleted] I'm talking even more basic no JavaScript. I’d want a way to do exclusive ads that are no different from any other post. Except clearly marked as an ad. But as I type this I'm realizing I can already do that. Just post something and say this is a sponsored post. So, I guess you don’t really need an ad extension for what I’m thinking about. Haha!
Ffuser1 Ability to store and serve your own custom adds with the following choices: show ads for X number of days show ads in a certain tag or category show ads in home page show ads before or first post show ads after X number of posts show ads in footer shows ads for a certain user group selection show ads for non logged-in users an interface for users to submit and pay for ads to be served with option to select sections of the site they want the ads to be served. Like in a certain tag or home page etc.
Ffuser1 For those asking for Google adsense, there's already a way to do this. install HTML head extension Add your Google adsense code in the html head extension and enable it. customize your adds in Google adsense adds will start showing on your flarum site after few minutes. Caveat: you can't customize who views it. But you can send a PM to the author of html extension to add an option to user groups that an html head item is served to. I feel this extension should be for serving own ads. I prefer to serve my own ads than serve Google's. That way I have absolute control of how it is displayed and what is displayed.
MikeJones Ffuser1 with how flarum is set up that's a really buggy way to display Google adsense. I don't think that should be the adsense solution.
Darkle Two users have contacted me through FlarumES asking me about an extension for ads, I remembered this discussion because one of the users told me about the possibility of showing or not ads through permissions and it was just what we talked about here, @luceos are you still planning to do this extension in the future?
luceos Darkle I talked to the blomstra team about this and right now I'm not pursuing this. Meta is now the first on my todo. I'll possibly revisit ads later this year. Sorry to disappoint. Ps this would be a great candidate for crowdfunding.
Darkle luceos Ok no problem, they had been quite insistent and I didn't really know what to tell them, thank you. Ps this would be a great candidate for crowdfunding. Yeah!
Ffuser1 I'm equally awaiting this extension. But for time, I would have taken this up. May be I should start bit by bit
ctupramod I think at least putting an HTML code and uploading custom images with link would be enough for the first release. It would be great if we can choose to show ads between posts, Homepage sidebar, in-line with the post text, header, footer ...
shebaoting ctupramod I agree with this idea. I don't think Google Adsense is important and few websites nowadays depend on ads to survive.
[deleted] Justoverclock (maybe show ads only for unregistered user) If there will be a option for custom html option then I will show pop up Login/Signup to hide me hahahhahah 😄 😄
