Maybe the situation needs re-framed in terms of who is being considered and thus whether infinite scrolling is targeting the right (majority) of a given site's users. It's starting to sound like the decision for infinite scrolling is:
- going to be a non-option core functionality,
- considered for the All Discussions list,
- for the benefit of power users.
It's fair to say that power users are admins and mods (or forum groupies) who, like those here, need to give the full scope of boards frequent attention (for a lot more/different reasons). Admins/mods need to have special consideration for certain functionality, of course, but this is a decision that's seemingly going to impact all users, most of whom will not be power users — occasional at most — and will more likely fit the scenarios I described, having simpler board needs/interests.
Even for most admins/mods, the ability to increase the number of discussions listed in a "page" view (20, 50, 75, 100, etc), which must be an easy admin preference to add, is more than enough for most admins to rapidly scroll the top active discussions according to the tempo of a given website.
In any case, make infinite scroll an option in settings and I've got no argument. All systems go. ?
But force it on users and take away their ability to employ non-static footers, and I think you'll undermine Flarum adoption in business use cases.
