JoshyPHP As you said, the specification is meticulously defined. It's big and it has a cost. Currently the doc contains about 25,000 words. That's great if interoperability is a must (in publishing for example) but that's terrible for implementation.

They have a pretty neat test runner that helps testing against the spec examples. Check out this script to see how to make it work fairly quickly.

Fastidious candyman What is Textile's advantage over Markdown or kramdown?

I use Textpattern and I'd like to keep blog and forum with the same markup. Simply that. I don't say it's better even if it has some advantages (acronyms, abbreviations and you have to type less brackets) but personally I would choose it.

Maybe textile is more a pseudo-markup language and Markdown concerns itself with writing content, maybe textile text is more readable...

p.s.: Markdown (and its dialects) is more popular but Textile isn't so unsucessfull (GoogleChat, for example, uses a Textile dialect).

Textile is simpler and more mobile friendly. So I prefer it over markdown...

@JoshyPHP I noticed that TextFormatter does some nifty syntax highlighting in the live preview, but it's lost when the post is submitted. What's the best way to apply the syntax highlighting to pre-rendered posts?

It uses a dynamically loaded instance of highlight.js. You can see the unminified code in the BBCode definition

It doesn't work on regular posts after the first one because it calls hljs.initHighlighting() once when the library is loaded. Try executing something like typeof hljs !== 'undefined' && hljs.initHighlighting() after loading posts.

Toby I'm sorry but I can't understand this, if you're going do processing in server-side, what gonna change with live preview?

sijad TextFormatter would compile the conversion logic into its live preview JavaScript, so we don't need to worry about that. The difference is that when the post HTML is submitted/returned in an API response, instead of containing Unicode emoji characters it would contain <img> tags.

For anyone reading, this revival is regarding #397, where I said:

I think that's a use case that's better handled with a custom BBCode like [center]. There's no widespread syntax for text alignment in Markdown flavours.

In my opinion, [center] is the way to go.

BBCodes usually need an [/ending] code.

Try [center]Your stuff to be centered[/center]. It's what I did in this post.

BlackSheep Dominion tried this in a Sandbox (https://discuss.flarum.org/d/2318-centering) and we discovered that Markdown inside BBCode's [center][/center] doesn't work at all.

For example, [center][How about a link with Markdown?](I Am A Link)[/center] translates to the following:
center][How about a link with Markdown?[/center]

Dominion said it has been mentioned before, though I have no idea.

You tried other content? I'm just wondering if its taking exception to that image tag. Try the traditional [img] or some text?
