Digital Davis meetdilip I have a hunch Toby might wish to limit the present discussion to the changes that he proposed in the OP. Regarding the relationship between the avatar and username that's displayed with below the discussion title, I'd like to direct your attention to this older thread.

There you will find a lengthy discussion of the very same issue, including Toby's thinking behind the original design, plus a variety proposals for alternate approaches that resulted in the current layout. It's required reading, if only to avoid a rehashing of ideas that have been discussed before.

You're right, the colored square idea wasn't good.

Better might be to color the background of the entire list item containing div a faint yellow (or whatever default you wanted). Then there wouldn't be a need for any additional UI gizmo at all. You would only see the "new item" color when logged in, for the personalized effect, and it would go away when you opened the thread.

But we (CSF) will wait for the stable release and be happy when it gets there.

Btw, I would think UI changes like this would be on the stable v2 roadmap, not v1. Especially as the design is working decent as a V1. I know nobody is giving dates, but can we say a stable release will happen before 2017? I have people chomping at the bit to get enrolled now.

Toby They are all well thought out ideas. I could think of a change here and there but I'd rather wait and see it in action and also let my forum users express their opinion. Are we going to see this in Beta 6?

This forum often has recent features shown, so it'd (probably) show here before in a beta version. My guess is that beta.6 is already overloaded with other things that need to be done and this is in discussion stage atm..
Alternatively, you can use Devflarum which sits at dev-master and updates very frequently. If code was pushed for this revamp, it'll show there - bugs and all ?

Is there much use the avatar being that of the OP? I feel like it would make more sense being that of the last person to reply. Just a thought ?

HUGZ The first thing to come to mind is if a user has an essablished trust in a community, users may be more likely to read a discussion if they recognize the poster's avatar.

HUGZ If not an option, it seems like it would make for a good extension to have the last poster avatar displayed.

jordanjay29 indeed I think it can stay like this until stable (beacause it isn't a performance change or a added feature), but I would like to see it working at least in a RC so there is a chance to make any change before Stable

Marianox I think you misunderstood me. It won't be in version 1.0. Maybe 1.1. Or 2.0.

jordanjay29 - it would be better to have this in the first stable version - why? It would be much easier for devs whose maintain extensions (better to change something in beta than after 2 years of stable version) - it could bring a lot of issues with backwards compatibility.

Anyway it is up to Toby - I hope he will dedicate some spare time to finish his "baby" Flarum ?

Honestly I like the changes that are done to this, but would there possibly be any way to make the "NEW" and unread reply count be BEFORE the title? I think that it would help with seeing it all better instead of having to read past the title and then see this information. To me, it would make more sense from a new user using this software and seeing this more in line rather than all over the place with tons of different colors (can get visually lost).

Toby said before, avatar has a role to topic as identifier. When they are on right you need to jump from left to right. You lost direct/close link between avatar and topic name.

@Toby Your latest changes bring back many ideas from old forum scripts I know. Icons as topic features indicators. NEW, and numbers of unread. So those are all very welcome.

Hiding labels also is great move on All discussion list and other general lists. But when you enter specific Category, like "Support". I don't see any reason to display obvious label information for each topic [ Support ]. Instead of main Category repeated, (child) Tags should appear. Displaying the same information in loop is against economy of simplicity I think.

Keeping the feedback and controls contextual to the view/task, thus less clutter/distraction/confusion.
