I like the idea of adding it into bloomstra but how would you calculate the pay percentage per user?

Number or upvotes? Number of views?

Also how would you handle taxes? In the US after a certain amount paid they could be considered contractors and need a 1099 tax form.

Super cool idea though!

I haven't been able to test it yet because I don't plan to use it in my case, but Blomstra Payments is compatible with the Blog extension? I had also thought of something like this meetdilip

Actually a subscription method can already be done by adding a monthly payment permission

luceos we integrated arc.io for revenue, the revenue received is directly proportional to the amount of time visitors spend on our site. Say if a particular user's blog post is making us $1/month - we need to give out to the content creator at least of around $0.4 remaining we may need for keeping the service alive (server, domain, etc..) So quality discussions and blogs should get more "user engagement" and "time spent." So need a uniform way to measure how to payout to content creators. I have seen how medium.com pays it's writers, they measure the payout with "Average time spent on that post" & "number of claps". but how can adopt something similar, got no idea.

meetdilip You can offer a paid subscription. Almost every major newspaper do that.

But I wish to make all contents of our forum open to all that doesn't fall behind any subscription gates.

Sure, give early access to premium members. No ads, download as PDF are other perks you can offer to Premium Users.

we don't display ads that's the reason we opted for arc.io instead of AdSense. And we promised that we won't collect any kind of money for premium stuff and all... everything is free for everyone 😅 so no special perks kind of stuffs.

I hope you guys got the idea of what I am trying to convey and what I am trying to achieve.

User24 Because they generate revenue, that is what you are looking for, right ?

oh no. We integrated arc.io for revenue as I said before. We just need to give back a part of it to the content creators on our site. Like how youtube generates revenue via ads and gives a part of it to content creators, like the same - I wish to implement something but I have no clue where to start.

meetdilip download as PDF are other perks you can offer to Premium Users.

Is there a way to do this yet? This could be great for my flarum to allow users to download the trail guide as a PDF?

I have been thinking of adding trail guides as kindle books people could purchase as well.

MikeJones I think I can make that possible inside blomstra/payments. This would then be an option inside one discussion I assume?

User24 arc.io seems incompatible to be integrated inside blomstra/payments, but it would make a great standalone extension.

luceos I think I can make that possible inside blomstra/payments. This would then be an option inside one discussion I assume?

That would be awesome! I think I would see this as a download button on the main discussion.

Maybe give the option to download just the first post or all the replies as well.

MikeJones allow users to download the trail guide as a PDF?

This would be a file that you attach to a discussion for download?

How would this work versus the ability to download the discussion (all posts) as pdf?

MikeJones Maybe give the option to download just the first post or all the replies as well.

luceos Sorry I should have been more clear. A "trail guide" in my flarum could be a discussion. So basically anything in my Trip Reports tag.

The "Trip Report" is usually the first post. Someone may want to download it to their phone for when they go on a hike and they may not care about all the replies and may only want the first post.

                  • ctml replied to this.

MikeJones this can be done via a web browser though, so I am not sure anyone would pay for that feature since it is widely available for free.

Edit: I guess there is the limitation that posts are lazy loaded so you're only downloading what's currently visible.

ctml thats fair. I am just grasping at straws as I think out monetization 😆

                      • ctml replied to this.

MikeJones if you're users aren't technical they may not think to use that feature of most web browsers though lol. So maybe the discussion download as a PDF or paid attachment (would require some labour to put each one together) could still work.

ctml Yea my plan is to one day use bloomstra to hopefully remove ads from my site for paying users. Right now I have some great content but I don't think i have enough users to have people sign up for a yearly or monthly fee.

I got a handful of ideas floating around in my head though.

Right now I am working with some YouTubers who make video trail guides and giving them a place to write written trail guides to help drive traffic to their videos. Helps me with content and helps them with traffic. If my site takes of a bit, I may be able to charge YouTubers to post. But still to early to tell.
