I do appreciate your response, and am aware that the "cloud" provides tools that essentially cut out tasks for admin to perform. Developers of Flarum will remain free to work on the code. Sys admin work is best left to the admins.
I don't quite see the benefit of many cloud solutions for a lot of companies, and many have switched from one to the other, or even back and forth trying to find the correct fit as their needs evolve! I think economies of scale go a long way to offset the very steep prices for certain "cloud" services, but still think that if you have a dedicated team and implement a lot of best-practices from the get go, you can do better in many scenarios with bare metal.
I'm certain you're well aware that much of what is provided by a "cloud" (and the qualification varies drastically from one individuals mind to the next) can be designed and implemented by individual companies if they have the available resources. I do like where the cloud is going, but think it will have to mature and be of most benefit sometime down the line when we have such an abundance of resources for so cheap, that the focus becomes on all the excess that can come by means of a "cloud".
For now, and with most budgets in mind, it does not seem to make too much sense at least for our needs. We aim to have a very reasonable base package price, that could not be afforded if we were to go with a large cloud provider like AWS.
